50.4 m.p.g.?

OK - You asked for it!

56 Plate R1200GS - averaged 50.44mpg over 9548miles at cost of £830.00
08 Plate R1200GS - averaging 48.63mpg over 8855miles at cost of £879.41

For comparison

06 Ford Focus 1.8TDCi - averaging 46.24mpg over 52418miles at cost of £5,329.46 (I don't pay for this one!)
1971 Land Rover Series 3 (2.25ltr Petrol) - averaging 17.6mpg over 7490miles at cost of £1,678.46

So 50.4 for an "old" model R1200GS is right and a bit optimistic for a "new" one!

Is that my anorak over there????

I stand (or more accurately sit) in awe! :D

See you in a week or two. :beerjug:

I have no idea what it is that I am doing differently to you guys, but I've never seen over 40mpg on this one. I've only done a few thousand miles on my '08, but overall average is 39.

Do you want the figures for my:-

Peugeot 205
Ford Focus 1.6 Petrol
Kawasaki KMX 125
BMW F650 GS Dakar
BMW G650 X Challenge
Kawasaki KLX 250

As well??? :augie

Its just something I have always done. I can also tell you how much my bikes are currently costing me per mile!

All very interesting but just points to the complete unreliability of the readout. FWIW I've got a consistent indicated 51.3mpg over 7k miles since I bought the bike new a year ago - never changes whatever the type of riding. Can't be arsed to do the calculations to establish what it's actually doing. Fill up - ride 'til range around 30m - repeat.

So your computer is calculating this based on 7,000 miles of data - It'll take some pretty huge variances in riding to change your average.

Real world, my 1200GS gets between 45 and 70mpg calculated on a tankfull...
