Bought a 4GB Sandisk SD card. It's formatted FAT32, with a folder called "mp3", into which I've copied some subfolders, one per album, containing mp3 files. If the SD card is in the card reader on my PC I can see and play the mp3 files. No matter what I try, I can't get the Zumo to recognise the card. If the Zumo, with card inserted, is connected to the PC, then the PC sees the Zumo (drive called "Garmin") but not the card.....

A good way to test the SD card is to share a waypoint onto it from the Zumo.
Try this and see what happens......if it works the card is fine ...if not...well looks like your card or MP3 downloads is the problem.

SanDisk SD-HC 4gb cards do work with the Zumo...I have four of them

Thanks for tip Jaws100. When I hit "Export" I get "Error Writing Share data to SD Card. The card may be full or write protected." Card works fine in both PC and camera. I get the same message when I use the 2GB card from the camera. Looks like a dodgy Zumo to me....

My Zumo will not recognise a Sandisk 4GB card, but works fine with any of my 2 GB ones.

Maybe if you try it with some other cards before giving up on the Zumo:nenau

This may be a silly question, but, are you sure its the 550 model and not the 500 zumo. Have you just bought it?

The 550 has its own maps built in and you can use the card for updating routes and playing music.
The 500 has maps on the card, so automatically looks for maps first.

Just a thought

Some bits of electrical equipment will only recognise up to 2GB SD cards, my TV gives me an error reading with a 4GB card. Looked at the info booklet only good up to 2GB.

Many devices won't work with the newer SD HC cards, HC standing for high capacity. Check the card, as I think pretty much all cards over 2Gb are HC, therefore probably won't work with hardware which was designed more than 12-18 months ago.

I just bought a 16GB card today and the Zumo didn't originally like it. I did a little bit more research and it seems that older firmwares don't seem to like newer SD 'HC' cards. I was on version 2.7 and am now upgraded to the latest and it works fine.

The thread here gives some details on firmware; you can download an updater tool from Garmin to do all the legwork..

Hmmmm
I have this same problem, or is it a problem?
Zumo exports waypoint to sd card, no problem
Music files sit on sd card and are visible & playable on zumo, no problem

However "My Computer" sees the Garmin and anything ON THE GARMIN but "my computer" does NOT see the sd card at all either as a seperate drive or as being on the garmin, is this right?
Or should you just manage the sd card with a card reader or export from the garmin device?
