Had the 550 for about 5yrs now and get on well with it.
Recently the power from the cradle to the unit became 'dodgy' and, after a bit of 'wiggling about' when in the cradle, the unit would come to life.
I spoke with Garmin this week and they (very very kindly) sent me a cradle FOC ... one happy chucky!
Fit the new cradle today, inserted unit and she sparks straight into life ... excellent news (I thought) ... tried it in again and not having any of it ... no power to unit apparently.
Connected it to the car mount and again it came to life with no problem.
Tested the cable and all in order with power coming through, secured the cable to the unit and tested the power pin and all is well there.
Any suggestions anyone? (I'll be onto the Garmin guru's Monday to see what they say and will get back)

Interesting, because mine has started to do exactly the same. Sometimes it starts up immediately you put it in the cradle, other times you have to do it several times. Also it will show low battery sometimes part way through a trip. Which means it's not connected. Let me know how you get on.
