On the final bit (ferry) coming home after visiting Euro Disney (never again, they should be hung for robbery! )...
Anyway. The bike has performed well, two up and all our gear in panniers and top box
Engine noise. Seen posts before on this, but it's not until you've done a 300 mile day, you realise how noisie these things are. Mine is a 2015 with 13k miles on it.. yesterday we were coming back up the motorway in 25 Deg heat at 130 kph for most of it. At speed it's great, like a sewing machine. But when you stop, I get tapping both sides and a bit of chains noise. RHS is worst, and the occasional click that I think is the decompressor and a stumble in rpm. Only at Rickover, raise it to 2000 rpm and it's all good again. Also noticed that riding today in 20 Deg heat, it's not as bad? Can a few Deg bring on the noise that much? Also get what can only be described as a slight knock/hacking noise again at Rickover only, from the front (or at least when I put my head towards the clocks / folk hole area) can only think this is the transfer heard or something knocking about?
Is all this normal or is it doomed to fail as I see a few posts with cams being replaced?
It is due a service so maybe new oil will help.
Talking of oil, it has used a bit. It's always been slightly overfilled since I bought the bike (BMW service for you)... So after sitting an hour or two, it just about reaches the top of the viewing window. Now after 600 miles it's on the top of the circle where it should be so used a bit.. now sure what that drop equates to in ml, but guess it's normal to use a bit?
Last thing to mention.. or maybe the last two. Getting a bit of back ache between my shoulder blades. Do you think bar pull backs will help with this?
The Puig touring screen is ace. 80 mph with visor up not a problem, and we could use Comms easy.
Overall, great ride and bike, just a bit concerned over its longevity over the older BMs Ive had in the past??

Oil - don`t top it up unless its near the bottom of the window - about 0.75 L diff. from a line near the top to a line near the bottom.
Backache - is your seat set on high front/low rear?

Ref back ache - Up and back risers make a huge difference

Oh dear poor Mickey mouse, well I forsee in my cristal ball a GS engine stripped down soon, did you get to see the Eiffel tower.

Yes.. parked where suggested :beerjug:

Re the seat.. yes I do have it hi front lo back... It's better on the backside that way.. will try it level.. see if that helps..

Will also get/make some pullbacks risers.

Spanners out when I get home :)

The Wunderlich up and back risers are great, but you could try the Rox risers, as there’s more adjustability.

Ref the noise, do you wear earplugs? I never ride without them, as I don’t want to hear my engine, and I like to be able to hear my music properly.

Spell check! Just re-reading my initial post.. I'm not Chinese, that should be tickover and transfer gears! Bloody phones
Anyone else get these noises?

Will have a look for a brace also!

No.. never use plugs.. have music but speakers in helmets... But why are they so shit on tickover when hot... 5_50 oil help?

A ticking noise is normal beaver even my new 2017 bike has a slight ticking noise, I aint no engineer but its something like in the thread below, however if it is really bad, read below.

I can't ride a GS without the bar risers it is that uncomfortable for me. Rox Risers to the rescue.

Did read that before.. thinking of going back to a twin cam.. or r100rs we went around the world on them with no issues at all !!

beaver you know engines make noise, I would not worry too much, look a t the harleys you have, they aint quiet.

There is noise and there is unwanted mechanical noise... Harley's are much better than these.. or maybe you just can't hear them LOL..
Could be the exhaust is so quiet on the BM? But so much mechanical is wrong. Didn't get it on the twin cam.
