60C and 60CS sideways

How much work would it be to give us a software update for the 60 so we could try it sideways (oo err).

Should work fine on the bike with the buttons to the left. And as its in the open air can't see much of a problem with satelite reception.

What do the boys at garmin think, apparantly they watch the GPS thread here

I think it's a very good suggestion.
I would send e-mail to Garmin directly about it. You can find the appropriate address on the website.
The more e-mails they get with similar suggestions, the more they will be inclined to do something with it in a future firmware release.

Nice idea and having moved from a GPS V to the 60c I can see the sense but.........having now 'acquired' a MiGSel GPS mount I am very happy with the vertical screen and don't really see any need for the horizontal view I was used to from the GPS V and the second 'but' ......but what about the GPS cradle ? - I don't think it would be too secure with the unit lieing sideways as the cardle allows the unit to sit in it in a vertical position but may prove a bit vulnerable lying horizintally.

Looking at my cradle at this very moment I can't see it coming out of it in a hurry. (Ram mount)

I too am happy with the vertical position but when I finally get my Migsel mount believe that it might be better Horizontaly.

I think the answer depends on exactly "how much" you want to see displayed sideways. If the answer is that you just want to see your main navigation screen in a landscape, rather than portrait view, then that's probably pretty easy to do.

If you want all the different pages that form part of the user interface (setup, waypoints, GPS status, and so on) displayed in landscape mode, heck, you're talking an enormous amount of work, both today and on an ongoing basis anytime the system software is modified.

One concern I would have, just based on my "first look" at your suggestion, is that offering a landscape view might create its own set of problems, because the antenna on the 60 is intended to point upwards. If it is used horizontally, then the antenna will also be horizontal, and not everyone will realize that satellite reception will be degraded because of this.

I think the GPS V offered a choice of portrait or horizontal presentation, but then, it had a swivel antenna on it.

Me being a bit siplistic here but the Quest and the 60 are basically the same GPS, or am I missing something.

Therefore should be easy enough for Garmin to allow us to load the "firmware/software" for one or the other. Allowing either or the other. But not choosing between the two without reloading the appropriate "firmware/software"

Or have I missed something.

60 versus Quest

Same processor, same screen.

But the quest has more memory and an internal battery. Can't see why either of those should stop it working. As for the horizontal position. I use my gps in my cycling pocket whilst riding for the stats. Its rarely the right way up but it still works.

OK does not seem like those of you with the 60 think its a good idea. Shame really as when you have the four data fields open at the top of the screen they take a fair bit of space. Looking at photos of the Quest they seem to be better managed.

Seemed like a good idea at the time...
