640 adv,time for some tlc

Had this motor done 60k?
Is that about the right time for a rebuild ?

Don't think he found much wrong inside the motor, but I'm sure he'll be back soon to describe what was knackered and what was good to leave.

Cam rollers are prone the early failure, but thats a well known issue easily sorted.

Yes JB, 60 k
Not a lot amiss really, apart from the the bits mentioned in the the thread.
I recon it would have gone 10 to 20 more before issues,,,,,,,,
But it shows that the motor is a good thing.not in the bulletproof realms of of a rotax 650:D
But predictable IYSWIM
Good oil and regular maintenance will see a 100k lifespan (if you don't kill it)
Total £££ for the motor will be @ £1200 in parts:eek:
I have gone a bit overkill but as stated previously,I don't intend doing the job twice, and I'd be be gutted if I rebuilt the bottom end to have it drop a valve and scrap the motor :comfort

Can i ask please...As i am also slowly doing one up,but no where near a show stopper as yours will be....But
how did u keep the shot blast gravel out of the oil filter housing,,...?
Cheers Mike.

Engine hasn't been blasted,if you mean that housing?
Regards the frame I washed the old filter and screwed it back on,all of the oil ways in the frame where capped off with plugs, then all removed and masked prior to powder
