Well i just got to retirement. I think it's a achievment. Everyday we hear of sad cases of people just being in the wrong place at the wrong time and losing their lives . Ailments can hit us at any time at any age let alone i have have had a bike all my life had some near death moments inc one where i was in a coma and had a 50% chance of coming out of it. i did but still carry the battle screws and plates but still here. Now it's time to enjoy life a bit more and my wife and i have decided we want to get back to tour before we hit care . We did so in 2003 on a fantastic 1150 GS but never really went much further than northern Europe. The dogs are getting old so for the moment its a week here or there but if i get to 70 and cantravel it's firther a field. Since the 1150 i have had mainly harleys just plodding around on Sundays if i had a day off and my roadking special i like a lot but i do not care what anyone says it's not a tourer , the protection is weak and just not in the same class as a GS for that purpose. So i am chopping it in for a BMW . So what BMW?...i came close to getting a 1250 4 years ago but went for the RKS. Now with so many coming on the market a good deal for a 2nd hand one is on the cards. But here is the catch, i am under orders that i can only do a swop with no extra money passing hands. It's fair enough i would be a millionaire by now if i hadnt bought bikes and i can get a good touring bike for 15k i am sure. So as said i have 15k. A i better waiting a few months before i look for a better deal?

I'd look to swap ASAP, the reason being a low milage good example GS will sell all year round (All 3 of mine were traded in either in December or January and sold by the dealer within a couple of weeks) Sales on your Harley will slow once summer comes to an end so trade in then will likely be less as it could remain in the dealers until next spring.

Well i am up for a ride out with anyone in the north yorkshire area . I am a retired retard but have cut that ball of chain to the state thank feck!

Welcome to retirement enjoy mate

Yes, but careful. Watch this TED talk on the 4 stages of retirement, it's quite illuminating:
My wife has just retired, I'm 62 kness are going/gone (plumber)and would like to retire but my P.Pension did so badly in the 80's that I'm shit scared that I won't have enough so I call myself "semi retired" in reality, I'm still working as before, but it's more to keep her happy.
However, if you don't have your health you have nothing.
Also, I'm scared that in my head, my job defines me, but that's my problem.
As dub 24 said, enjoy.

So many people panic about retirement or in particular early retirement stating they won’t have enough to live on, etc, etc.
I was lucky enough to retire at 55 and five years on I’ve absolutely no regrets.
I’ve actually got more disposable income now than when I was working nearly 60 hours per week which is bizarre but very true.
You simply adapt to your new life of freedom both literally and financially and just continue as normal. It really is that simple.
If anyone is on the fence worrying about retirement, don’t be, be positive and go for it.
If you’ve worked all your life, you deserve some fun and freedom. 👍

+100% to what this man says. You will adapt to the freedom. People said to me you'll be busier now than you were when you were working. Bollix to that I said. Well guess what it's true I'm busier ,but it's my busy not someone elses . I wonder how the hell I diid everything when I was working.
Colleagues of mine 2 to be precise
One had time done at the start of covid and decided to stay on as he couldn't go anywhere during lockdown. Roll on the end of covid he retired, 6 months later diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and dead within 4 weeks.
Second Colleague 50 years of age, 3 kids. Christmas just gone had wisdom tooth pulled and had continuous pain afterwards. Went back to dentist saying you made a balls up after checking dentist says I'm in the clear so went to GP ,roll on loads of tests and the final prognosis Throat Cancer now undergoing aggressive Chemo.
Lads your health is your wealth get out when you can my tuppence worth

100 % spot on.
Get out as soon as you financially able.
No pockets in shrouds. Enjoy it whilst you’re still able.
👍

If you want to, and you can, do it.

You can always get a job again if things don’t work out….£38,000 for pushing supermarket trollies so o read on here!!??

Just catching up on a few comments and entirely agree in the main that money isn't everything. The descision to retire early for me was 2 major things that happened in my life one good and one bad but both joined together to make the decision. First was we paid off the morgage and that means nobody can kick you out of your house and once you have a permenent roof over your head the rest you can adapt to survive . Secondly was a bad RTA which left me in a coma. I survived just but it left me with many iron rods all over the place but the threat of losing your life is a game changer without a doubt and we decided that my wife would work on as she really enjoys her job and i would take early retirement. Now, my pension isn't much at all but it helps and anyway as a member said i can always go back. i was talking to a dog walker the other day, every day i had seen him with 5 dogs which he walked for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon 5 days a week Mon-Fri. he charges £17 hour for each dog...You do the maths it ain't bad when you have to walk your own dog anyway...

I respectfully suggest, as a 68 year-old, that you get your knees done (one at a time!) asap. This requires 6 months of post-op recovery, leading to a strong renewal.

Thanks Kitsilano, but I'm 62. Point taken though reading all those comments above: Life's short, enjoy it while it's still good.
