650 renovation work

Always had boxers but ive been given a 97 st 650 and perhaps a few hundred quid to spend on it and tart it up a bit.Will replace all rusty fasteners, and rusty brackets, etc.
Any tips from anyone re oil filters, oil/water replacement.The engine casings look a mess too, peeling paint etc, as do the fork sliders.Was wondering about taking all these off the bike, and blasting/repainting, or even powder coating.(are these items liable to look scabby after a few miles if I sand blast then and leave bare?).
Anything to watch out for if I DO take engine casings off (clutch etc etc??)

Any other tips would be welcome.

Hi Martin,

It's probably best to repaint the casings and forks, as the cast alli will corrode quite quickly if left bare and would very likely come out looking blotchy if you try to polish them.

I wouldn't have thought the casings or forks can be powder coated, as the heat involved in the process might damage the castings.

Sorry can't answer your question re removing the caseings as I have not done this on the 650 bm.
