Can anyone inform me as to whether there are any guides available as to how one removes the swing arm to enable the bearings to be lubricated and change the chain please, without being required to purchase a full service manual? I am led to believe it is not as simple as it appears.
Thank you.

These pictures show you where the bearings are. As Tim has said the only problem with the removal of the swingarm is if the pivot bolt is corroded. You can remove and replace the chain by removing the pivot, pulling the arm up and out and wiggling it past the ends of the swingarm. if you don't want to remove the suspension links.

The other problem you might have is undoing the front sprocket retaining nut they are locktighted on and are usually very very tight.

Many thanks for your time and effort Lolgeoff but....the diagram would appear to be for the single cylinder F650, not the current twin cylinder model.

Dead easy... if you had a Meccano as a kid :thumb

Wheel out, remove the plastic 'clamp' that holds the brake pipe to the swing arm and hang the caliper clear. The front mounting screw of that plastic clamp doesn't have to be undone... the plastic just slides from underneath it.

Hang the chain on the right swing arm protected by old cloths etc.

Undo the swing arm nut, remove spindle, remove swing arm ... it's as easy as that. No need to remove the exhaust.

Enjoy :thumb

Use a waterprooof grease on the needle roller bearings on the swing arm pivot :thumb

Thanks Micky, I had been told horror stories of a large circlip that required removal and other various difficulties I would experience. From what you have described it appears to be relatively straight forward process.

No big circlip in the equation Sharik :thumb

No 'seals' at each end of the swing arm to drop out once you've pulled the spindle, unlike the 650 singles :thumb

Forgot to mention that you need to remove the lower mounting for the rear suspension unit, but that would be obvious of course ... I hope ;)

The swing arm needs to be twisted on removal to get round the exhaust, but it's fairly light and not too much of a problem :thumb

Once out you can push the bushes out by thumb and examin. As said, repack with plenty of waterproof grease without disturbing the needle rollers although I think they are 'captive' but wouldn't like to bank on it

Don't be thinking that all grease is waterproof, it's not. Use a good quality marine waterproof grease, or the thick and sticky stuff that BMW/Brembo use on brake calipers, pins etc.
