Ok i have a 650 which i want to convert to a serious rally bike the only thing is wait for it...................................... its an aprilia peagso its the rotax single but with 5 valves. Got it for a few hundred quid.. so can throw some pennies at it and if i drop it i wont cry as much as if i drop my BMW. so first questions..

what forks should i put on it?
What wheels should i fit?
What mods should i do first?
This bike will need a new exhaust so what do you recomend?

budget: £3000 to throw at this project , i know you guys would probably say buy another bike! but your advice will be greatly appreciated.

The engine is sound a lot more nippy than my Dakar, so should be fun to rally....

Q. What forks should i put on it?
A. Telescopic ones :thumb

Q. What wheels should i fit?
A. Round ones :thumb2:thumb

Q. What mods should i do first?
A. The first ones :thumb:thumb2:thumb

Q.This bike will need a new exhaust so what do you recommend?
A. The type that comes out of the front of the engine and then goes to the back of the bike :thumb:thumb2:thumb:cool:

Sorry M8...couldn't help it :blast

I'm new to the Dak, so I'll be keeping a close eye on your thread for some good ideas. :nenau

Good luck, and let us know how you get on :bounce1

cover the bike in double sided sticky tape then drive it through the Touratech warehouse whatever sticks to it bolt it on:thumb2

take some pictures of the before and after as this could be a smart thread.

I would also say look at other hardcore rally bikes then find one you like the look of and build your in a similar style...:thumb2

Best of luck

A Touratech tank will cost you over a grand. Why not make Tim an offer for his Dakar prepped 650?

Do you want to build a bike for competing in Rallies, or one that looks like it could? The answer to that question will determine what you should do, and what you should spend your money on. As Timpo said, check what others have done with the same bike first, to see if it's going to be worth while.
Take lots of pics though, we want to see the result!

Cos he's not selling:blast

and as Timpo pointed out.............you might not like his subtle reply and the toecap of his Enduro boots

Forks: 2nd hand Marzocchi or White power (WP) with clamps
Rear Shock: 2nd hand WP
Have forks and rear shock rebuilt by Kais to your own spec.

Wheels: Talon rims use standard rear hub but fit 18" rear, 21" front and decent hub.
Exhaust: Scorpion

Sort the suspension first.

Oh and what the f*cks an aprilia peagso.:augie

If you're building a 'serious Rallye bike' think about your objectives, else you'll end up with a very focused bike which for me is perfect but compromises day to day offroading.

Feck me, a sensible answer:guitarist

Just a thought, for that kind of budget you could pick up a good condition KTM adventure, which already has the big tank, decent suspension ect.

And any extra bits you need to put on should be readily available, which saves a lot of time and hassle and cost over having one off items made.:rob

I'd have thought a KTM adventure would be too heavy to rally...imagine trying to lift one out of the mud? Even a Dak is pretty heavy for manhandling, but lighter than a 950...

I think he means the 640 Adventure!

Well excuse me fer breathin!! (note TWO exclamation marks :D)

I think you're both missing the point...Jonny's already got a bike he wants to improve...maybe he likes tinkerin...

Personally, I like his style, finding cheap bike with 5 valve head over standard Dak...which he already has...go for it Jonny :thumb
