So, I'm thinking about buying a 650GS Dakar but wherever I look people go on about how unreliable they are!
People go on about water pump failure and electrial problems etc.
Is this true?
I've had several twin GS's and they've always been fine.
an anyone give me some pointers on what to look for? Seen a 55 plate with 10k on the clock.
Cheers!

Great bikes :thumb

Girlfriend Sue (Gracie on here) 70k plus on her first, 50k plus on her second, mine did 60k (overland and through the Gobi Desert)

Don't listen to scaremongering, buy one and ride it if it floats your boat :thumb

Watch for dribbles from the water pump, steering head bearings, play in the swing arm bearings and linkages thereof.

I've never had one, but a friend has taken his to Morocco on two > 4000 mile trips, come back with a big smile, worn tyres, chains and sprockets. He busted a rear suspension unit, pipe to remote adjuster on the last big trip, but the bikes done big miles so not hardly surprising.

Certainly considered on myself, but decided to use the F800 instead.

Had a 650 Dakar. Brilliant bike, I'd buy another. Not a single problem ever. Even after a heavy off road tumble. Commuting got me nearly 80mpg.
