Ok so my F650FS battery went flat even after charging so I bought a new battery but when fitting it ignition comes on immediately even with no keys in.
Could this be the switch has got waterlogged? As the spring bit the key goes into is permanently open.
I’m at a loss on what to check/replace - would just replacing the barrel work or do I need a module, will it need any reprogramming?
Also is it a special tool to undo the ignition lock bolts - looks like a hollow torx, can you buy these?
Bike obviously immobile now and I’d like to get it sorted asap

If this is for the twin cyclinder model, I have seen this problem on my sons 2012 bike.

The actual contacts on the switch are on the bottom of the ignition lock assembly. I seem to recollect that part of the contacts had become loose and had moved, allowing the bike to be permanantly live even with the switch in the locked position and the key removed.

Fitted a 2nd hand ignition unit and problem solved.

I seem to remember removing the special bolts with a pair of mole grips.

Yes, does sound like the switch below the lock barrel. I replaced the switch a couple of times over the years and new were around 70 quid. The security torx bits are widely available.
I don't think the little lock flap is letting water into the switch but it can end up leading to the lock freezing up. My switch also had the little flap missing but I made a cover out of a washing machine dosing ball which was put on whenever the bike was parked up.

Thanks both I can see the switch unit is about £80
Is this the correct part?
