My suggestion would be:
Hull-Zeebrugge ferry
Then head towards the Somme, Verdun, the Ardennes, Eiffel and Mosel.
that will give you some great riding, some history, and some scenery. Without the need to flog down to the Vosges, Black Forest or Switzerland.
The good think about the ferry from Zeebrugge is that, althoygh it sails around 9pm, they start to board any time after 5pm. So if you get there early, you do not have to hang around on the quayside carpark, but can get on board and fed and watered.
I thought the food and drink on the ferry to Newcastle was extornionate when I tried it in 2015. I think fish & chips was about £16 from memory!!
