701 long range anyone ?

Ah, ok then.

This is what you get on the 501 and I assumed the identical instrument display meant the pick up would be the same.

I’ve not ridden the bike in heavy rain again so I don’t know if the silicon grease worked and I’ve only just noticed I didn’t put the tape on it but the tape is sitting on a pile of bits and pieces next to the bike so I must have been distracted and then forgot it. Easily done at my age

Think i'd be inclined to solder that connection and use heat seal tubing then make a new connection higher up even if it slightly less convenient when taking wheel out. It's going to be very difficult to keep water free down there.

I think it’s a potential weak spot which was why I suggested Martin looks at his if it’s the same design.

Soldering it and putting in a new joint further up is a good idea and it would make no difference to wheel removal because the pick up is on the caliper mounting plate so I’ll have a look but I’ve also got some guaranteed waterproof connecting blocks for anything from single to six cable connections so may just fit one of those in the same place.

This is the 701 pickup, with connector hidden away up the cable somewhere.. Quite different, probably due to ABS requirements.

Looks like I missed a bit on the cleanup though :D

Chickened out on the graphics.
A local sign guy will do them for ‘£200 tops’ but hopefully less.
So stripped the bike and took him all the plastics.

I’m heading off the island for a few weeks so hopefully they’ll be done for when I’m back .Electrics being done mid November and then should be pretty much sorted.
Belly pan still on the way from Nomad and Mike at Nomad says they are developing a bracket for a Garmin XT which is what I have so will get that too when it’s manufactured.

This is the mount. I haven't seen an XT mount - does it use the 4 hole AMPS mount as all others Garmin's?

Yes, I know its an XT mount. My question is does it use the 4 hole AMPS mount?

Here is Nomad’s XT mount.

Seems overly complicated to me...

So i'm liking the new 701 LR with a few Nomad add-ons. However, given the choice, what would you choose.... a 701 LR or a standard 701 with a Rally Kit conversion?

I'd go standard. 150+ miles range is more than enough in this country, especially on the stock saddle.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the rally kit either unless I had to do lots of motorway miles, a task the 701 is not that great at. Just a load of extra weight to get bent when I fall off. The 701 excels as a really good "trail bike" as we used to call them, only it handles, stops and goes like feck on minor roads.

So,I’m back home and re-fitted the panels/screen with sticker kit applied.
Very happy with the result.
Just waiting for the Nomad belly pan/tool box which was posted last week so due any day, plus the heel guards and XT mount which will be a few weeks.
Electrics being sorted next week and then I can ride the damn thing again.

The only difference to the final look I was trying to achieve is in the yellow front tank shrouds.

Nomad had theirs sprayed but supplied a roll of black vinyl wrap with the sticker kit.

The sign guy who applied the stickers for me said it would be too difficult to get a neat finish wrapping the entire panel and suggested just covering the flat sides like this :

I’m happy with it and don’t want the expense of having them professionally sprayed,as I think they would need a bit of work for the paint to bond well to such a plastic. But I’m probably wrong....

The bike looks fantastic, I dread to think what it owes you. My only observation is that I would like to source a smaller, neater tail section. The kit you have fitted seems to have softened the very wide look of the LR.

I will be interested to hear how you find the comfort on long runs, I keep asking myself if I could live with a 701 in place of my KTM 990 & 400 EXC, can one bike do green lanes & hops to Europe with luggage?

The Renazco seat and all of the Nomad kit has set me back about £2300.
I’m hoping it’ll be comfortable on long runs.I ran a KTM 950 Super Enduro with a tiny fly screen and Renazco seat for a decade and went all over Europe on it so I’m expecting the 701 to be as good,if not better with better wind protection and a similar seat.
