This probably been covered before but just bought an 1991 R80 with a documented 716,000 kms under its belt and still going well. Bought it off the original owner (80 years old). Paint a bit faded, original seat cover-unblemished, original crank and cylinders. Has had one engine, gearbox, driveshaft rebuild to my knowledge.

I'm sure there are higher km bikes out there but the condition of this bike after so many kms reminded me why I have a weakness for BMs.

Why did I buy it? -Trying to get the "build a cafe racer" bug out of my system and this was a cheap option.

Going once at 716,000 kms, going twice, any advance on 716,000?

If the GBP to AUSD exchange rate is anything to go by then thats about the 35,000 miles right ?Big deal :P

Now bugger off and get your camera and don't come back until you've got us some pics:thumb

Don't remind me about the bloody exchange rate, my brother in Cambridge is bad enough!! Can't afford to visit him!

BM starter motor (used) from Aussie wreckers -A$400
New starter from Motobins -A$250 -even with freight it's a good deal.

How could I resist a request for photos delivered with such English charm?

My calculator says "444,168.73" miles

Are you going for the straight milllion?

Km or miles would be equally impressive. :augie

:beerjug:

Thats impressive.

Sounds a lot of miles but is only 500 miles a week.

My 100/7 has 214,000 on the clock which works out to a measely 162 miles a week.

A few bits missing (mufflers, lenses, cables)-Henry kept them for spares for the Mystic he bought to replace this. All I've done is clean it and repaint the rocker covers. Service data for these kms is lacking in BM literature! Perhaps it should read: 750,000 kms-systematically replace all metal and plastic parts:JB

Best airhead GS advice I have received: just ride it and appreciate it for what it is. If you want more power, buy something else.

Ride it like you stole it] Does this mean after dark with a black balaclava pulled down to your waist and constant furtive glances over your shoulder?:bounce1

Must go, I have a lot less important things to do than this!
