We did 160 miles around the Dale's yesterday and it's the first time my wife moaned about the suspension, the roads aren't that smooth around the Dales and it didn't do too well soaking up bumps (road mode),smooth roads is what it likes. She also decided the seat is too small and uncomfortable, knees at a more acute angle and more vibes than the 1250. BMW haven't considered the 1300 over the 1250 from a pillion perspective.
I know I've only done 700 miles but I just don't seem to be able to gel with the bike, the tone of the engine is terrible and the whineing is doing my head in.
The 1250 was certainly the sweet spot sounded great with the Akra end can and very very comfortable which is important to me now.
3000 mile trip to Norway at the end of June will be the decider if she's a keeper!

You should keep her . Sell the 1300 instead

With all due respect, did you not do a test ride with the wife on . I ask as that’s what I did , then after approval did the deal . Moving forward she loves it even more now , after the last and longer rides out . I sold the V4 s as she found it awful compared to the 1250 , but the 1300 seems for her , better .
It’s a lot of money not to find it not as you expected , maybe move it on before it looses too much and go back to the 1250? Did you go into the settings and reduce the damping as you have -2 to +2 so maybe you can reduce the damping thus create a softer ride. It’s a great feature , personally I run + 2 riad , +1 Dynamic Hope it’s good in Norway . 👍🙏
3000 miles + done now , it gets better and better , well apart from the pads .

Was in the dales on mine today, I can only agree the whining noise is quite loud, it doesnt really bother me, the suspension can feel a bit wallowy sometimes on the dales back roads but then crashy on bumps and pot holes, the bike definitely seems to work best when riding it harder on the smooth stuff, it really comes alive. Still a big fan of mine but i think as advised above if not working for you go back to what you prefer and maybe save a bit of cash.

I did,a 60 mile test ride in the piss down rain in October with my wife,at the end of the day it takes ownership of a bike to find out what it's really like.I'm sure it'll grow on me especially when my custom fit earplugs arive and my wife forgets how comfy the 1250 was 😁

Sort the suspension and get some peg lowerers....they worked a treat on my Africa Twin for my wife...dropped it about 40mm and really did make all the difference for her. Way cheaper than chopping it in
(When we go looking at bikes now, we take a tape measure for the pillion seat to pegs distance and discount anything that isn't close to her 'ideal' measurement. We get odd looks in bike showrooms but sod 'em)

Can I also add the Michelin Anakee Adv tyres that came with the bike are shite I'm not tyre sensitive like some riders but these are terrible, they tram line on anything but perfect tarmac .

I do think some tyres don’t suit some bikes. My Super Tenere did not like tourance tyres but my 1200gs was great on them. My Tiger Rally Pro 900 is great on Anakee adventures.

I had those on my last 1250 and hated the winey soundtrack coming from them to the degree that I had them changed after only 200/300 miles. I know others swear by them but maybe that's part of the noise issue?

If i were you i would swap them for either tourance next or cta3s.

My 1300 came with the Michelin anakee adv tyres
Have done 9000kms on them with no issues
And the weather here in Ireland isn’t the best most of the time
May try the cta3 next as they seem highly recommended on forum here

No mate, it's a mechanical whine from the gearbox at a guess.

Hi,ive done 1700 on mine bike is brill to ride but sounds like a diesel dumper truck ive got a 1000 highland trip planned will see when i get back the japs can make a quiet engine so come on bmw whats up.

Not in the market for a bike right now, but would never buy a first production bike from any manufacturer! Despite what they tell us, most r&d is tested by the poor sods that buy the first batch off production line. Hence the number of recalls etc. I worked for the Japs for 20 years+ and they’re exactly the same.
Besides, there’s amazing deals on the 1250 right now - that’s where the smart money goes. Think outside the box 🤔
PS. I suspect the 1300 will get better with miles. All the boxers I’ve had did. Trouble is the pcp mob never get to enjoy the best miles on their bikes - cause just hand them back when they’re just starting to break in and get good. Good for rest of us mere mortals though!
PPS. I’ve owned 3 GSA’s and all gave me numb ass after 150 miles. One exception was my old 1150 (maybe just because I was younger with more padding?! lol)
Sargent seating is solution 👍
