Just fitted a set of TT bar risers on me 800. To look at, 20-odd mm difference in height doesn't seem like a lot. But it has made a massive difference to me, especially when standing on the pegs.

I'm no longer stooping to control the bike, which means I'm no knackering my back up again. A good investment for anyone over 6'0", methinks.

Where from and how much dollar?

:)

Edit: Oh, and did you have to mess with any of the cables / lines?

Touratech catalogue and about £40.00 IIRC.

Easy to install, you just feed a spanner in between the plastic panels and the underside of the top yoke to grab the retaining bolt heads (the fitting instructions recommend removing the plastic panels - but it's not really necessary).

An 8mm ring spanner or socket fits the male Torx heads on the bar clamps perfectly. Undo four bolts - no need to disturb or lengthen any cables - and put the risers in. Easy peasy. Didn't even have to slacken off the attached BarkBusters.

Just one thing though, I found if you line up the marks on the bars that are etched on for alignment, when reassembling, you end up with the bars pitched too far forward. This results in a 'preying mantis' angle for your hands when you try to grab the levers. I had to rotate my bars back a bit for a better angle.

The 20m risers do make a difference, well for me anyway. I have the Wunderlict ones and brought them from Nippy's! A lot more comfortable and helps to miss the car side mirrors when filtering through London traffic!!! :thumb2 :thumb2 :thumb2 :thumb2

I have a set that are sitting here doing nothing as i fitted them, and found that there is alot of 'flex' in the mounting of the bars, for example i could push the bars forward and backwards a little, so i removed them... Am i doing something wrong or are they all like that? Fitted loads of risers before and never came across such movement. :nenau

Nice one, being 6' 4" (pushing 6' 5") I can barely stand up as I find it difficult to control the throttle etc, might be worth a punt.

:) thanks

I had the same problem when i first installed them, the fix was to tighten them a bit more (like really tight). Needs a bit of elbow grease and all will be fine! Good luck!

Further to adding risers, if any of you stand on the pegs a lot, another cheap fix is to remove the rubber inserts to the pegs. You will gain more or less 10mm. Might be a help. I removed mine within the first few weeks of owning the bike. Also and in my case, little safer in the wet without the insert (boot slipping off when adjusting trousers/jacket or just moving around on the seat)

Mine appear to be solid. But I won't get chance to put many miles on them until next weeks' holiday. So we'll see. I certainly gave them a good hoik when i fitted them, plus about 30 miles on-road hasn't led to any problems...yet.

Just a thought, did you fit the spacer washers in the correct sequence? I thought it looked a little odd and had to double check to ensure I understood what they meant. IIRC there has to be two washers together on top of the rubber 'bit'.:nenau

the big problem with the 800 risers.....

its actually a VERY BIG problem....

is in the design of the standard BMW handlebar mounting in the top yoke..

the "risers" standard or extended... fit via a very slack rubber mount into the top yoke,

in the event of even the most minor "off" the handlebars will be pointing in all directions of the compass compared to the direction of the forks/yokes..

fitting risers makes this bad situation... worse:eek:

for an off-road bike:nenau .... this really is crap!

just my 2 cents worth

how much

Hmmm...interesting, especially when you couple it with Santrix's comments about a loose fit.

All I can say is that I've dumped mine on grass lanes (and into big holes in peat) with no ill effects so far. Shove the mirrors straight and all has been well. On one occasion I tried to drag the bikes front end out of a bloody great hole in the peat by dragging it with just the left-hand grip - no movement at all.

However, they have only been very low-speed drops. I understand what you mean though, again I'm sure time will tell for me.

I had one drop on soft grass/hedge and had to ride home with about a 5 degree twist untill i could undo and re-tighten..... So i agree with the crap design totally.

Im sure I've seen a bar clamp advertised where you can adjust the angle of the bars for Off-roading by just adjusting the err...adjuster.

I cant remember which site or company it was:nenau I've tried to find it again as im not too sure if there was a "riser" as well, or just an angle adjuster.

I think it was a German site, that someone sent in as a link for something else........thats not much help is it :blast

Wunderlich (America) has handlebar quick-adjusts.

Are there any problems with the cables - brake, clutch etc - when you fit risers? Thought they might be a little short...
