800GS and CTEK XS 800 battery charger

Has anyone used the CTEK xs 800 battery charger on the 800GS while the battery is mounted in the bike? The charger connected to the terminal with the eyelet terminals? I don't think it should be a problem for the bike's electronics, but it would be nice to hear the experiences by people who have actually tried it. Just so I don't do anything that might damage the bike's electronics.

Hi there

Been using this charger on my 2nd hand '05 1200RT for the last year.
With no problems at all.

Don't know age of the battery but it's not new for sure. Charger has been keeping it in tip top condition.

I don't disconnect leads and just put charger crocs on top of terminals.

Not experienced any probs, CAN BUS, erronous errors.......

Not the XS800, but I've been using CTEK's Multi XS3600 charger, together with the "comfort connector eyelet"** permanently wired to the bike. I wanted a charger to use on my Discovery as well.

It was current drain problems eventually traced to my Zumo 550, which I'd connected to the dedicated GPS power takeoff. Might have been OK for the BMW-branded Zumo, but not for the Garmin-branded one.

Since I rewired the Garmin power supply via a relay, I haven't needed to use the charger much...

** This has 3 LEDs (red, amber, green) to shows battery level. Supposedly green's fully charged, etc., but in practise the bike will happily start with only an amber LED, so unless it goes to red, I don't bother to connect the charger.

Old thread but I have the same question...

My girlfriend has recently purchased a 800GS.
As it's now winter time the bike will be stores in the garage for the next 4 month.
For the last 4 years I've used a CTEK XS 800 to tend the batteries on our other bikes (all japs) during winter - and it would be nice, if I could use the same charger for the BMW.

From the other posts I can see that a CTEK XS 800 doesn't cause any problems on a '05 1200RT and that a XS 3600 works fine as well.

But can anyone confirm that the XS 800 won't cause any problems on a '10 800GS - with the charger connected to the terminal with the eyelet terminals?
