Thinking of buying a 800GS, but not sure whether or not to go for the Adventure. I'm 6'5" tall so no problems with getting my foot down, but see that the Adventure is 15 kg heavier.
I'm not interested in going off road.
Any advice as to which to go for?

Hi martin
I have recently bought a F800GS (as i couldnt afford the new gs adv) i think the adventure is slightly more off road bias, so if you have no interest then i would go for the normal gs! I plan to get trail riding on mine as i have ridden off road before on enduro bikes but getting too old now so want to slow down a bit and admire the scenery.... good luck with your choice of bike

I have the gsa mostly for the bigger tank. 27 litres yes I know they claim 24 but I consintly put in more. Only down side is tubed tyres they are a pain when punctured. Brake down services don't want to know they will recover your bike to nearest repair center. I'd rather plug a tubeless tyre thanks. Jjh

Having ridden both a reasonable amount as loan bikes over the last few months, the taller screen is very good on the GSA and extra range would be usefull for commuting and longer distance jaunts. However, the standard bike felt a little better suspended as a road bike - the suspension is slightly tweaked on the Adv and slightly less compliant.

I also found the GSA a bit more vibey for some reason - the gearing is the same on both though so it may just have been the particular GSA I was on.

Personally, I'd go for the standard bike with the screen from the GSA fitted and save myself a few quid for fuel and farkles.

Wider pegs = more transmitted vibes ??

Could be though I ride my 700 with the rubbers removed and don't get any vibes - the gearing is longer by 1 tooth on the front sprocket of the 700 though but again that shouldn't make a lot of difference so I think it was probably just the particular GSA I borrowed.

The rear brake pedal on the GSA is also better now I think about it.

Either bike is good though.

Hi Martin,

I had an 800gs for 5 years and 60k miles before moving to the GSA. I think the stretch in funding to the GSA is worthwhile. It might be slightly heavier but you don't feel it. The screen and the slightly more bulky plastics give you better wind protection and it does make a difference. I haven't find it more vibey in fact the engine feels smoother but that's probably just moving from a 2009 model with relatively high mileage to the 2014 version. I also like the bigger tank and knowing that you can do over 300 miles without a fill up.

Don't take anyone's word for it though. Get to your local dealer and try them both, preferably for at least half a day each, and make your own mind up. And.... If you decide on the GSA go for the TE:thumby:
