Folks im just back from an Alpine biking trip with my usual mates. Unpacking my panniers i realised how much shite i'd actually carried. Spare tubes, tyre levers, electrip pump plus a can of puncture repair fluid to name but a few. The spoked tyres need innertubes which are a pain to mend no stop plug and go like tubeless tyres. Yeah the off road ability requiring tubes i know but i was wondering what other ideas you people have.
Ive been stuck in Scotland awaiting recovery and also in France in the past.
If i could change just one thing about this bomb proof bike it'd be the ability to run tubeless.
Your thoughts pleases good people :D

100% agree. There are various remidys but cost a fortune. I carry puncture repair outfit tubes tools and pump in 2 tool tubes. Jjh

Would a tubeless wheel off a 650/700 twin work? If so half way there. Jjh

Yes they are expensive.

The rim is one piece with external spoke attachment.

The alpine wheels are sealed using an 'O' ring.

Also the rim is way stronger than the standard 800GS wheels.

You can always try the trick we used to use on our trail bikes years ago when on weekend off road jaunts. Most punctures occur in the rear wheel, the theory being the punturing item, thorn/screw/nail etc gets picked up by the tyre and goes around until it comes to the ground again where the weight of the bike forces it deeper into the tyre, puncturing the tube.

What we used to do was take a metal coat hanger and fashion a loop that could be attached to the swingarm and positioned within a few mm of the tyre. The idea being it would knock off anything caught on the tyre before it got to the point where it was forced in. Does it work or not? Well I can't ever recall having a puncture with it fitted as you tend not to think about it when it's not happening :)

I think I may molish one up for the F8GS and the K12GT. My BoxerCup has a fairly close fitting hugger so I guess that would achieve the same result
