Enduro 2 rear tyre now well and truly goosed and looking to move up a couple of decades in tyre technology. Off to the Pyranees again in May and wondered if anyone had tried TKC70s and what they thought.

TKC80s, surely, the knobblies. In the Pyrenees with all that gravel especially. I've blasted through the Alps on them keeping up with bigger GSs on Tarmac and raising dust on the trails. Wouldn't have anything else. Road tyres on a GS is like 22" rims on a Land Rover. Not right. Sorry. Am biased. If you must break with tradition go with Bridgestone TW 301/302. Managed to touch down an R 80G/S rocker cover on a Tarmac hairpin just north of Grasse on those.

The TKC 70 isnt a pure road tyre (yes its road biased for sure) but it is a modern dual sport tyre. We have all had the TKC 80's (I must have toasted at least 30 pairs of them) and I think the OP was looking to try something from this decade for a change and to mix it up a bit. (as am I)

I have no experience of these but how about the Enduro 3 Sahara ? I believe these were designed with Airhead GS's in mind.
The TKC70 looks like a similar tyre to the Metzeler Tourance. Watching this with interest.......

I have them on my LC, but not on my airheads. They are fantastic road tyres and inspire huge confidence wet and dry. As a trail tyre really good too, they feel well planted on the gravel and dry green lanes but when you get to the mud forget it!
I had 7000 miles from the rear tyre, compared to 3000 on Karoo 3, 1500 on TKC80! But as I say this is on the LC ridden briskly.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Had tkc 80s in the past and are ok but just don't last. On this trip there will be a fair bit of rad work and gravel....nothing too technical as we are taint a noob with us. Also going to be fairly wet I assume at the time of year. So, something ok on the wet roads but better than a Tourance on the gravel.

I've just put a pair of theses on my R100GSPD and they feel really good. Admittedly the old tourances that came on the bike were fairly worn but the road holding, steering and cornering feel much better now. I can't vouch for their off road prowess but they look like they would handle a bit of dirt road/gravel okay.

I've got Metzeler Enduro and Enduro 2 I like them.
I may try the TKC 70 next as I'm pleased with them on the 1200 so far.

I have tried just about everything, even Dunlops, on my G/S and have finally settled on Enduro 3 's which suit me, my bike and the type of riding better than anything else I have tried.
They are listed as a 50/50 tire , but they stick to blacktop as well if not better as any 90/10 tire I have tried, and are a real step from any 80/20 up on hard pack and loose gravel roads and tracks.
They are OK on wet reasonable hard clay and the odd patch of shallow sand, but if you plan on deep mud , or deep sand you really want full knobs and a bike 150 kg lighter than an tanked up airhead.
Next favorite is Mitas E07's , just a little bit off the Enduro 3's but they last twice as long as almost everything else I have tried, 10/11000 km compared to 3000 km for TKs, 4000 for Scorpions and 5500 for the Enduro 3's.

Thanks Beemerboff, I had forgotten about the 3's ....think I will give them a go....I know the route we are taking so not expecting too much in the way of mud....mostly gravel and loose surface stuff. Will report back in June....if I remember.

Well reporting back a little earlier than expected. Decided to take Beemerboffs advice and go for the Enduro 3s. After giving them a good thrash over the weekend I have to say I am impressed albeit I am comparing them to some shagged Enduro 2s.
A little rumbley but you soon forget this and enjoy a surprisingly sure footed ride. No squirming on overbanding and such...really predicable. Also fairly grippy in the wet as well. Not tried on the gravel tracks but assume they will be better than the 70s.
So far I am impressed....great recommendation.

Not tried the tkc70 In a 21/18 combo but if they are as good as the 19/17 tyres they will be good

Ive had TKC70s fitted last week, only just managed to get the bike out yesterday and today - the front feels light, but thats as likely to be the roundness of the new tyres, on the motorway yesterday it did have a bit of weave over 90 it didn't get any worse at higher speed, so nothing i'd worry about, the Anakee's didn't have that weave at all, today i headed off on a short run including a few twisty bits - tyres were awesome!! super grippy, ridden the edges off the rear, pegs were down without even thinking about it so they do inspire confidence on the road, and i,m looking forward to trying them off road when in Dent next month.

Continentals are made by Mitas, so they 70 will be a tarted up Mitas E08.
Modern road carcase with a off road tread, looks a but like a slick cut with a remould cutter or a early 60's Michelin off road radial car tire.
The E08s are my favorite on my R100GS but dont come in a 18" rear for the G/S unless you can get a 130 to fit, and I cant, even a 120 rubs the shock..
If I want a 17" rear 80/20 combo the Anekeey 3 works better for me, and lasts a lot longer.

The compound seemed very hard...... I wonder what the wet grip would be like on our winter tarmac?
