Hi,
I've just read another thread which pointed to a BMW club thread re fitting fuel filter outside tank.

http://www.ibmwr.org/r-tech/oilheads...l_filter.shtml

The site mentioned that the upper hose on the right side of the bike is the return hose.

My upper hose is definitely connected to the filter inside the tank.

Is it different on different models?

Mine is an 850GS, 2000 model.

My tank's coming off tonight due to problems I had last week fitting a new filter.

Cheers

John

I just followed the right pipe from the tank gubbins end, mind you my pipes are colour coded with a couple of small zip ties.
to avoid confusion with quick disconnects.

Fuel Filter which Pipe

MASSIVE APOLOGIES GUYS.
I hold my hand up to being an idiot.
The top hose is the return hose, not the feed.
Maybe I was tired; no, no, I'm an idiot!
Sorry for any confusion.
John

Hi,
I've just read another thread which pointed to a BMW club thread re fitting fuel filter outside tank.

There are "how too" threads on here for fuel filter relocation.

Mine is outside the tank, but i'll be putting it back in the next time i'm i've a quiet moment and the tank is low with fuel.

It's not worth the effort, i found the fuel hose gets very easily cracked at the angle/bend it has to take. And Yes, i have tried different makes of hose and tried different routes for the pipe. :D

A fuel filter change takes less than half hour from tank off to tank on.
