I don’t intend on doing a cat delete on the 900 GS (arrives next week), but I wonder if anyone has removed the baffle from their Akro? Rivet drilling required presumably? Does it give a slightly louder deeper sound despite leaving the cat in place? Would love to hear from any of you who may have done this. Cheers.

You don’t need to touch the can. Just remove the resonator box and replace with an Arrow link pipe. This saves 3kg and gives a really nice rumble but not annoyingly loud. Here’s the Arriw P/N.

You should see the difference.

Neil Hawker has done that as well.
So have the guys at Bowkers on their one.

There is a perfectly good quality resonator box delete pipe available on Aliexpress - I have one on an F850GS and it works well.

I believe the F850 and the F900 use the same part for the resonator box.

Yep, looks good and I like the idea of losing another 3kg, however, in that resonator box sits the catalytic converter I assume? I’d rather leave that untouched for several reasons (in an ideal world). On my R NineT, I removed the baffles on the Akropovic and that gave me the sound I wanted (a little louder and deeper) without deleting the cat. The Akro on the 2015 still had hex screws, so it could be easily removed. Suspect the 900 GS has rivets. I’m not opposed to drilling and re riveting, but before I take a drill to that lovely Akro, I was hoping that someone had already bastardised theirs and could tell me if removing the baffle made much of a difference!

Richard, on the F850 the cat is in a section of exhaust some distance ahead of the resonator box, and I'm 99% sure the 900 has the same system. It's inboard of the rear brake pedal and has a heat shield covering it. You can remove the resonator without affecting the cat.

Thanks very much. That’s really useful info Si. 👍

No the cat is in the headers on the 900 - it remains in place.

That’s really good info thanks for that 👍. Any issues at all since you’ve removed it? How’s the warranty stand? I guess I’m wondering what the purpose of the resonator box is??

The box reduces the sound. No issues at all. I’ve heard some dealers doing the mod for people. No idea on the warranty but not a concern to be honest as it’s not impacting the fuelling. Up to you.

Likely mod for me my friend. How loud has it made it? That would be my only real concern…

Just wanted to say thank you for this (thought I’d done so before actually). Removed the resonator box. Fantastic result with the cat still in place. Sounds awesome but not too loud. Also 3kg lighter. Thanks for your help.

Glad it’s worked out - always happy to help!
