In a quandary do I upgrade the GSA triple black to a 90th anniversary model or do I risk it all and buy the new LC.?

Don't know why 'me' appeared in title, think its meant to be NEW..

new gsa everytime, the lc just isnt the same kinda bike, not saying its not good but its not the same bike as hexhead,im holding out to get the last of the proper gsa"s:D,although tbh theres nothing wrong with my 12 plate tb

If you already have a GSA Triple Black then you already have a 90th less a 90th badge and a slightly different paint job, so not much of an upgrade. If it was me I would keep the triple black and upgrade next year to the adventure WC:D

If you simply want a new bike, why buy old tech when shiny new is now available. Get the top spec for best future value.

If you want heritage, get a perfect original 1150 Adventure with all the original BMW kit. That was the first real adventure bike. All others are "me too". You could go right back to a Bumble Bee 800 but they were not that craved after at the time.

The 90th anniversary model is sold for its heritage. But I personally think that very few manufacturers heritage specials hold up. The Meriden Triumph Jubilee Bonneville was an exception but it was also one of their final products.

tested an LC and loved it, was an absolute hoot, but then chopped in my Rallye for a 90th Anniversary GSA.

I use mine for work a fair bit and already had GSA Luggage, so "upgrading" from the Rallye to the GSA was the logical step for tank range and I actually love the looks of the 90th anniversary as well.

I also got a much better PX deal for my Rallye against the GSA which I will be keeping for a few years, for hooning I've got a flat barred ZX12R and an old Blade :)

Nothing wrong with the LC though, it all depends on what YOU want :)

Next big thing on the forum will be those converts who had 1100/ 1150's and they were the best bikes in the world (and totally faultless) then immediately bought a 1200 when they first came out and spent their lives slagging off the 1150 as old, slow blah, blah.

They then bought twin cams and slagged off the original underpowered and under developed 1200 (mind you they were still totally reliable)- they also continued to slag off the 1150's as well but more vociferously.

Now they've all jumped ship buying new liquid cooled 1200GS's, paying deposits on a bike that they had only seen in pictures and now they have taken delivery of their new toys and guess what ?

Yes they are the best thing since sliced bread , now they will happily start slagging off the horrid crude twin cam BMW's as old fashioned and archaic, nearly as horrid as the old 1100 and 1150 blah ,blah.

PS not jealous , have looked at the new bike, not what I want, could afford one but don't want one .

I own a twin cam it's okay, not been 100% reliable but it will do until I retire , I loved my old 1150 , had in 9 years it was old fashioned , slightly crude and it wasn't 100% reliable either but always felt it was a nicer bike.

GSA 90th

Well

Bought the GSA, Got the panniers, Low Seat, Akra. already Etc.

Really just wanted a newer bike as going a on a number of eurooean trips, I know the product is proven. The Bike mag write up put me the LC off somewhat.

Anyway deal to be had on the 9th and not on a LC.

Job Done.

You won't catch me slagging of the twin cam, it is a great bike, and I'd have another if I needed to release some funds :rob

Congrats.:thumb But you made the fatal mistake of taking any notice of a motorcycle journalist:comfort:D

I tested the LC last week, loved the engine but hated the switchgear, how far away is the indicator switch?!!!!!!! Anyway decided to get a triple black in the end.

In that position I would have done the same - the twin cam is well sorted and I doubt you'll even notice the performance gains from an LC when you're loaded up on a big trip.

And one of those journalists made a fatal mistake whilst riding the LC.

Unless he didn't make a mistake .........

paddy-good choice. The 90th GSA looks great in those colours and I'm sure will stand up well against the over-complicated WC GSA when launched

.

Or you could go right back to the first real adventure bike which was the Triumph Trophy of 1956 :rob

Yes I dont think 'Bike' would say something that was untrue, No smoke without fire.??

But I do realise that mags and papers do print a load of twaddle as well and only want to sell print!.
But Arsey says what I dont want to say.!

When I had a test ride on the LC, I hammered it and loved it, no instability at all, that was on some crappy road surfaces as well.

I wonder what the mileage was on the press bike that Bike magazine had, or where it was used before? It's not acceptable to have the tank slapper go so wrong that it snaps the lock stops off, but had it been hammered around by a previous mag, etc etc.

Back on topic though :) I loved the LC, and if I could afford it, I would have one as a weekend toy, but I can't afford to do things like that so I chose the GSA Anniversary option. Only the OP can make his mind up though after testing an LC and seeing if it tick's all of his boxes.

Exactly................you've tried the rest

NOW, try the BEST - the BMW R1150GS Adventure

:JB

Here's a Triple Black Version;)

The HP2 behind that GSA is far more interesting ;)

Well I've never owned or ridden a BMW bike in my whole life.... test rode a GSA in the morning and an LC in the afternoon....

Thought the LC was a bit too much sports bike in Adventure clothing for my liking, and felt a bit small after half a day on the GSA, but a very very good bike all the same, but the presence and character of the GSA won me over.

Collect my new 90th edition GSA on Friday.....:JB
