Read the title and thought somebody had ran a fully fueled 1200 into a large building :blast

There are a few now on the forum with the GS-911, its not cheap but it does give you quite a bit of independence from the dealer be it at home or abroad. Thing is, its not a miracle cure, you do have to use your head abit in what it's telling you but you can always ask here as one or two here seem to have experience of what the cryptic messages may mean.

If your using it for maintenance as well your a double winner with the new features HEX are providing.

This is the sort of suport HEX can provied via the Google Group.

"1. Idle Actuator Calibration
Here's a short description:

Idle actuator calibration, is also known as "zeroing the idle actuators" or "idle actuator zeroing". The throttle bodies have a air bypass channel for the idle air (as I'm sure you're aware), and the idle actuators are of the plunger type, thus acting exactly like the idle screws in the previous models... The idle actuator calibration relearns the zero position (reference) - from my understanding, there is no feedback to actually measure where they are... the "stepper position" is the "position" of the control signal...
Example:
picture me sending you down a dark corridor, telling you to move forward 7 steps from your current position... - if you were at position 50 for arguments sake, you should now be at position 57... or so we assume... and as I am the controller if any asks where you are, I will reply "57"... however, as you do this a couple of hundred times... you might have some friction, or take slightly different sized steps... and in the end, I might be thinking I'm sending you to 57, but in fact you would be at 54 (or any other number)... now imagine doing this with two people in two independent dark corridors... without a doubt... after many iterations of sending you up and down many times... you for sure will not find yourself (a) on the intended spot, and (b) on the same spot as the guy in the other corridor...
This is exactly what happens with the idle actuators... and hence you calibrate them (i.e. resync their zero reference position)..

2. Engine Synchronization (also called Throttle body sync or off-idle sync) This is available as of Beta 906.1 This is the procedure that you need to lock the idle actuators in place to that they don't try to compensate whilst you're doing the synchro with your Twinmax or other appropriate vacuum synchro tool...
Here's a short description:

ok, the lock idle actuators, performs the idle actuator calibration above, prior to locking the idle actuators for syncing... If you don't calibrate them first, then you set perfect off-idle sync, and then later calibrate them, which will unsync your off-idle sync ever so slightly... (or as much as they differed before you set the off-idle sync)

The idle actuators are of course locked in a fixed position, in order to not interfere (try to compensate) while doing the off-idle synchronization...

the complete procedure for the sync, consists of the following:
1. get engine to operating temp (above 80C) 2. switch engine off and do a Idle Actuator calibration 3. Start engine, lock idle actuators and perform off-idle synchronization 4. final step is to unlock the idle actuators.. (but if you forget, a ignition cycle has the same effect)

The above 4 steps are all integrated into the Engine Syncro (as BMW calls it) procedure, so there is no need to do a manual Idle Actuator calibration before running the Engine Syncro procedure..."

Marvelous stuff! I'm gonner get the Battlecruiser set up a treat!! :D

I've got one Badger.

When my battery gave up the ghost last year the BMW rescue car came out to my house.

He used the £15,000 computer his dealership had to purchase from BMW - but it wasn't really designed for bikes so there were few features he could use. It told him my battery was fine (though he and I knew it wasn't).

After replacing the battery he asked how I knew there were no fault codes (other than low power) and I showed him the 911.

Impressed is not the word for him! Had it connected to my Blackberry by Bluetooth and let him step through the codes and checks.

He said he was gona buy one himself as it was much simpler and quicker to use that the BMW laptop!

Guess that's reccomendation enough?

911..not an axed american kiddy soap

cheers chaps, all fuel for thought,or as 1st reply if that had been fully fueled gsa they wouldn`t have needed a second plane! asking only because did a terra circa in 07` and was lucky,1 punture and 2 blown bulbs in 17000mls but allways in back of head what if? and "HOW MUCH Mr BMW" for pluging that in.it was all simple on the old super ten, vac gauges ond no skin on the knucles(trx engine only just fitted in,but boy did it go!!!)and another trip may be in the offing and its either use the panzer wagen or go back to basics and trust in nippon, could always say sod it and stay at home but i haven`t got 1 any more, just a tent and understanding g/friend.........:ChrisKelly
