Hello

We've just bought a new laptop - a Fujitsu Siemens. It works well, as you can see.

One question so far: when you type the 'at' (@) symbol it comes out with speech marks ("), and the other way round. Just to explain further, you need to press shift and 2 to get the @ symbol.

Any ideas? Can I change it somehow?

Also, resolution on the screen isn't great. Increasing resolution (via the control panel) to a higher setting chnges the screen size and loses the bottom toolbar. Any ideas on this?

Finally, will we ever get used to Vista? :D

Thanks in advance,

Robin and Joe.

Hi

just check in settings that keyboard is set up as english / english
not english american

re vista
crap eh xp still better
good luck
Gaz :beerjug:

Change the language settings to UK English and also for the keyboard. (control Panel, Clock, language and region :thumb2

Robin re the desktop resolution r/click antwhere on the desktop screen and select 'properties' then 'settings' and chose the the screen resolution you want from there, that way you won't lose anything.

Next question: the headphone socket doesn't seem to work. It stops the speaker working, but no sound comes out of headphones - something of a drawback, really. (Have tried a couple of pairs.)

Does it need to be switched on? Does it need something special for it?

Thanks again.

No, defo doesn't need to be switched on, the jack overides the signal to the speakers.
It could be something small, I know this probably isn't what's wrong, but make sure the
stereo JACK is in all the way.

Caught me out before.:o

As for the keyboard problem,my @ key is shared with the numeric 2 key but I have to
use the " key to type it. Never been able to correct that. :(

Sorted...

Bugga, it took this post and 5 years to figure it out.:o

Press the “Alt & Shift“ keys, this resets the keys, works a treat. :thumb2

Brillant, thanks Robin. :thumb

YES!!! Ive now found my £ key and " and @ are in back on their correct buttons.
Thanks :thumb2.
So... soft palmed computer geeks DO have their uses.

Robin I'm not completely au fait with Vista but somewhere in the control panel you should be able to open 'Sounds' it may be called 'Audio' and set the defaults, you may find that the 'Mute' box has a check in it re the headphones volume.
