I did think about getting spokes but the bike takes enough time to clean without doing those too :(

Never got this one.... Why does wire spoke wheels take so much longer to clean?

I've never noticed much difference... How do you clean your wirespokes vs alloys?!

I`m used to wiping a sponge round the rim of the wheel & it being clean rather than negotiating all those spokes wiping in between them.

Aaaah... It's down to the tools then, is it? I have an arsenal of different types of brushes and sponges - I usually use the brushes the most, then "tidy" up with the sponges...

The brush arsenal consists of various sizes such as dish-washing-brush, bog-brush, bottle-brush, and recently added an alloy-wheel-brush (Poundland/poundsaver stores are excellent places for finding cheap brushes)....

Yup same here, i have an arsenal of washing tools.

A long handled soft bristle broom (used for the car too!) toothbrushes, a few paintbrushes etc...

DO you use the bog brush for getting into the air fins and other 'hard to reach places?' Does it mark or damage any of the finishes?

Only washed the GS a few times so my routinte isn't really bedded in yet.. ;) But yes, I tend to use the bog-brush a bit here n there - it's a bit big for the cylinders, but the "hairs" are long enough... The most used brush tends to be the dish-washing-up-brush, as it goes into most places, and the "hairs" are long enough.

Regarding scratches - Not noticed any - I guess the trick is *plenty* of water. I usually spray the bike with car-wash (80/20 water/car-wash or something), then grab the hose and have it slightly running, then scrub off the dirt and wash it off immediately.

I saw a test in a magazine once where they tested one of those rotating brushes attached to a hose on some sort of transparent plastic, they put it on there for several hours in one spot - and it didn't leave any scratches at all. Since then I've kind of adopted the philosophy that scratches come from the dirt that you're supposedly washing off the bike.
So, plenty of water, clean tools and scratches should be a problem.

Ah, so toolage is the secret? I`m used to washing plastic clad sportsbikes so all these fins, spokes & other nooks & crannys are a bit of a faff at the moment :(
The washing up brush idea for the engine fins is a good, I`ll use that :thumb :D

I've got a small brush that attaches to the end of a hose. Takes the same amount of time to clean alloys or spokes. It's worth wiping them with Scotoiler spray or similar when their clean.

I got one!

Yellow/Grey/Black - Alloys.

Fantastic bike - 3500 smiles so far.

Previous convictions - GS1150, Honda Firestorm, Honda VFR 750, CBR600 x 2, Kawasaki Z500, RD250E, Honda SS50, Garelli Tiger Cross.

Tony.

Oh! only one complaint, the screen generates to much wind noise in any position! Will fitting Tobinators fix this or do i need a replacement screen? 5'11, low seat setting.

Where are you all at?
I`ve got one so who else has? (no 1150GS owners please this is an upmarket thread ;) )

To me, the number of 1200GS's sold just proves that there are an awful lot of idiots out there with more money than sense.

You lot are buying a GERMAN bike, with dubious build quality, for £9500ish + accessories, when you could be buying a BRITISH Triumph Tiger955i for £6999OTR with all accessories fitted.
For gods' sake wake up and support British industry for once. The Triumph Tiger is supperb. Reliable, fast, handles well and is built as good as ANY other bike on the market.

Hey, Howard, get back on your train :D

How are you anyway, back at work now I hope - unless we have the wrong sort of leaves/snow etc. ?

I agree with your buy British sentiments but unfortunately the bike didn't fit me or I didn't fit the bike.....whatever. Judging by the ST revamp Triumph are on the right track maybe they will look at the Tiger next year and make it even better than you reckon it already is.

Me too, except it's not one of the 942 since I bought it in Poland (in July before returning to the UK after 10 or so years there). Traded in for my 02 KRS plus 03 650.

Blue/grey panels, ABS, wire wheels, heated grips, panniers, top-case w/liner bag, tank bag.

Extremely happy with the bike and everything else that came with it.

Cheers

Andy

Hey Howard, I`ve had a Triumph Daytona 955i for the past 4 1/2 years so I`ve been supporting the British industry.
It`s my money, I`ve earned it & like anyone I`ll spend it on what I like so instead of lurking round here bugger off to http://www.t595.net/messageboard/index.asp#Main where they love their trumpets :dabone :D
Joking aside it is a good site!

Had a Triumph for 5 years. Good bike.

But Tiger:

Test rode it and didn't like it
Has a chain
Doesn't have a Boxer engine (which I love)
I expect (though can't be bothered to research it) that the initial price difference is significantly clawed back when it comes to sell it after say 4 years which is probably about when I will change again.

'fraid that doesn't make me an idiot with more money than sense as I aint got no money. :D

Can't argue with that.. Mate of mine bought a 6 month old 2,000 miler for £4,200.. since spent £750 on Maxton shock & fork re-build:rolleyes:

He's happy enough.. reckons it's very reliable

compared to his 916:D
