As posted in a reply in another thread:

J B it is getting a bit daft i priced up the Santander route for us, and i believe i could do it from Calais to Santander riding all the way including 3 hotel stops and fuel for less than the sailing, admitedly i would have to add more time to my trip but for me thats easy as i am retired.

I worked it out to be about £350 each way, using Portsmouth to St Malo or Caen overnight. 2 nights in a hotel and fuel to get to Pau.

To get a price that matches than on the Santander ferry you have to a) use the shorter Plymouth route b) book very early. By doing this, booking in July 2025 for Sept this year, my Early Bird ticket paid up front is under £480.

I had an email a couple of days ago saying the 2027 timetable will be released earlier this year. Anyone wanting to get the best Brittany Ferries price for next year needs to register for email updates for when the booking opens.

BF email received today:-

France and Spain 2027 - now on sale

Our 2027 sailings to France and Spain are now on sale, with bookings open for travel from 2 November 2026 to 7 November 2027.

The sailing days, and times, from Plymouth to Santander have changed, later docking at 17.30, not going to get many miles in after arrival, probably won't clear the port before 19.00.

The Sunday sailings dock at 1545 which is only 30 minutes later than 2026 sailings

not had that email yet

timetable is live and they have messed with the Plymouth times, Tues at 1845 now instead of Wed at 1545. Arrives 1730 Wednesday instead of lunchtime Thursday.
Wed home is leave at 2030 and arrive 1730 Thurs. Pretty horrible as in October when I usually get back, you will be riding in the dark for half the trip back to Wales. I'd probably add a night to the trip and stay in Dartmoor or

Sunday out still available, 1645 out, arrive 1545. Monday home is the 2030/1730 shitshow.

The return price Plymouth/Santander is not too bad at £537 if paid now on Early Bird. Only about £60 increase on my 2026 ticket.

Similar dates from Portsmouth, still 2 nights outbound, similar arrival times at 1730, £658

With the timetable change an uncertainty over politics and fuel, I think for 2027, any travel arrangements for me are likely to be booked with a shorter lead time. I don't feel I want to pay now for a trip some 18 months hence.

I just looked at a random date for June 2027, out 20th back 28th and cheapest fare is £702 using early bird and 2 berth inside cabin with a bike

I'm aware of that, Tuesday's is 17.30.

Ok, but you stated that the docking is now 1730, which is misleading as that’s only on Tuesday sailing . The Sunday sailing is very similar to normal .

On the up side the return on the Wednesday isn't until 20.30, so you can get a full days ride in on your last day.

Hi
I’ve just priced up 3 bikes and riders - 1 x 4 bed cabin = £1468. Going out in mid December coming back late January.
The December sailing is a lot dearer than the January one.
I’m interested in the ‘cheaper’ ride through France option but at £489.33 each, for the ferry, I don’t think there’s much in it. Is there a way of getting the ferry price down a bit?
Thanks

book the trip as a holiday to include accommodation

you only need to include one night to get the 30% discount on the ferry price

May newsletter update: Brittany Ferries has reiterated their promise not to add a fuel surcharge
At Brittany Ferries, we want to be absolutely clear: these concerns do not apply to those who travel with us. Our fuel supply is secure, our sailings are protected and there will be no fuel surcharge on your tickets. We won't pick your pocket as departure day approaches. That's a promise.

Of course, this applies to those who have already booked their ferry. Those making new bookings are likely to find prices increase to offset higher overheads but at least you know they won't ask for a supplement later on.

Booked last week for a trip in June/July Portsmouth to Santander, can’t say the price was noticeably different from previous trips.

for now, as I imagine BF has already agreed a price for any fuel to be used this year. As the subject of this thread, those booking now for 2027 are more likely to be impacted by the fuel price instability.

And forget to pack yer t’tea to avoid that foreign muck onboard
