Sooo, I've now sold my 1150 and I'm shopping about for what to get next.
Been offered a very tidy deal on a 990 adventure which tempts me but I'm concerned about tank range.
My commute is 70 miles a day and whilst I'm not bothered about mpg, I really dont want to be filling up every day.
Anyone got any real info on fuel tank ranges on a 990???
Cheers!

^^^ this. 145-150 miles on my 2012 990 .

Stu

Get 140 miles until reserve light, then another 20 miles on reserve.
that's at 85-95mph on the motorway

Tunner - how do you get 200 miles? You must be riding like dot cotton on her way to church..

You got the same size tank or the additional sideslung tank? Was considering a remus roxx 2into1 pipe and the 3rd tank from adventure spec, but that works out at £700:eek::eek::eek::eek:

So is the 950 a bit more economical then?
I'm no speed demon and generally plod at about 80 on the motorways.
950 a better option? Preume the end can makes a difference?

Tell you what Dolly, we'll go out for a spin and you can judge for yourself :thumb

I ask my KTM to go far above and beyond the call of duty on occasion!

The 950 carries marginally more fuel than the 990 as it's fuel pump is located in the sump guard as opposed to the high pressure pump required for the injection on the 990 which sits within the L/H tank. I would estimate it to take no more than a litre of volume.

My 950 is completely standard apart from the titanium Akropivich cans which I run with the baffles in, has done 38,000 miles and is regularly serviced etc. The carburation is however perfectly set up and it goes like a bat out of hell. There is no difference in performance compared to a 990 (up to 2009 when KTM upped the BHP) but the throttle response is buttery smooth right down from 1800 rpm through to the limiter at about 10,000 rpm and it regularly returns me 50mpg :thumb

I cannot express how much I love it and I cannot think of a single reason to change it.
I'm deliberately staying away from the new 1190 though :augie

The 950 is definately better on fuel and much smoother is it's power delivery,

However, they are the oldest of the LC8 Adventure range so by nature will have done more miles and will start to require a bit of attention. For example, the 'Y' piece on mine has finally given up the ghost around the frame mounts (not uncommon)

The 950 was the first version of the LC8 engine and although has the smoothest power delivery the engine itself is a little more vibey than the 990 which I can only imagine benefits from some improved internal balancing.

If I was going for a 990 I'd opt for a post 2009 slight facelift version with the updated engine, black swing arm + hubs and new instrument setup.

Expect 35mpg though

I get about 45mpg out of my 990r (approx 10miles per litre), which works out at 140-150 to the reserve light.

(Still running it in tho' so should get a bit better when it loosens up a bit).

I have a 2011 990R. Generally 150 miles to the reserve light. My mate has a 2012 990 and he gets around 10 miles more to the reserve light. I too sold my 1150GS and was thinking about a 990 or a 1200 Adventure. I test rode the 990 and was very impressed. Fantastic suspension and handling, mine has Wings fitted and sounds oh so sweet. Do I miss my GS? Sometimes, but I had that old bus for over 5 yrs. The KTM is lighter, faster and loads more fun. The GS was a better tourer and more of a plodder. Depends what you want from your bike and what you are going to do with it really.
My main concern was having it loaded up touring and how it would cope. Well I have done a long weekend camping and it was very good, not lots of miles but enough to get a feel for it. Even have done some green laning on it, it was good at that as well.
Its not as bad to work on as everyone says it is, yes there is more to take off to get at stuff, but its really well put together and logically assembled. I am looking to do most of the servicing myself. Its like a long legged 916 but more reliable (I hope........) Hope this helps. Glen. :thumb2

Thanks for that Glen, I had a go on a 990 today and was very impressed (although the throttle was very snatchy).
Think I'm gonna go for it, fancy something different!
