9w led spots

Is it possible to easily connect these to the existing loom for use only with the main beam?

I thought I saw a spare socket on the loom under the headstock (apart from the GPS connector which I'm using).

That socket is for a GPS and won't allow much current draw. You could cut into it for the trigger voltage for a relay but might be better to take the trigger directly from the high beam s you want them to work as distance spots. They would work fairly well as the beam pattern is pretty tight, especially if you get the 27w jobbies.

I have a hunch that the canbus will trigger if you want to draw the current directly from the main beam feed.

What do you mean by "the canbus will trigger"? Does it get upset when you draw current it's not expecting?

Exactly. Think of Canbus as a set of electronic fuses. Too much current or too little resistance and it cuts off the juice. Re sets when the ignition is turned off and on again.

I bought a set of these - and have just returned from a French holiday - and am most impressed with them.

I wired them into the side-light circuit on my 1100GS - so always on - and was amazed the amount of light they chuck out, especially at night.

I actually drove 400 miles at night, some on unlit roads, with just these lights on - a brilliant white light that illuminated the road ahead superbly, along with the edges.

Only drawback - oncoming lorries were flashing me occassionally, so need to see if I can mask some of the unwanted upward light output - shame they aren't made with a proper lens arrangement to direct the beam.

I see they also do a 27w version - can't imagine how you could get away with that amount of light output, especially at night!!
