My 2013 R1200GS TE changes to a 2014 model.
I picked up my bike in early April last year. I had problems with the gearbox and clutch. The bike would jump forward when first gear was engaged, quite significantly. Clutch drag was diagnosed as the cause.
My dealer, Ocean of Plymouth, tried many different things to improve matters. They were absolutely superb.
The clutch was striped measured etc, and reassembled.
A new clutch release push rod was fitted – the bike was the second in the country to get this modification.
A new slave cylinder was tried.
Oil levels adjusted.
Anything that they could think of was done.
These alterations made the bike better, but not right. I was unable to get a decent gear change in the lower half of the gearbox, either up or down.
Even so I loved the bike.

There were also a number of electrical failures of the switch gear & heated grips together with a leaking brake master cylinder. These were all rectified very quickly by Ocean.
About a fortnight ago I received a call, totally out of the blue, from Ocean asking me to come in. They told me that they had negotiated a swap of my old bike for a brand new one with BM UK. I had never requested this, nor even considered that this would be a possibility.

I have just returned home from picking up the replacement GS, what a different bike. Gearbox as it should be.

I am very happy bunny.

A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO OCEAN, to all the team, you have been absolutely GREAT.

That's a good dealer story pity all dealers are not like that. However top marks to Ocean.

They swaped over my painted panels. So it looks just like the old bike, but a 14 plate.
Still have to put on the all the farkels etc.
DIY on hold until the bike is ready!!!!!

Ocean

Big pat on the back for a dealer
Seems they sorted it out with BMW
Wonder what happens to that old bike
Will it be repaired or made into frying pans and coke cans

Funny that some have swapped bikes for free and others have had to pay to swap

Makes no sense

Good result, SMB

It makes perfect sense, JB.:rob

The ones that had their bikes replaced for free had problems from day one, and have been backwards and forwards to the dealers having bits replaced, and then testing the bike, and then going back to the dealer several times.

The ones that had to pay, like me, had no ongoing issues, just one problem that didn't affect the way the bike ran, but was an issue big enough to warrant a replacement.

In my case, the nominal sum that I paid to replace the bike is far less than the time and hassle from all the trips backwards and forwards to the dealers that others have had to endure.

Had a very pleasant visit to Ocean this afternoon. They had a nice R100RS on display which attracted me.

I was asked what had brought me into the showroom today and I was perfectly honest that I was just passing enroute to collecting my wife Ann from Derriford Hospital. My son Martin (Crapaud Junior) is 22 now and hopefully will soon start exployment after his finals so he maybe in the market to replace his Fazer 600. He liked the look of the F700GS and had a good look and compared it with the F800GS.

Excellent service all round with no hard sell but extremely helpful and answered all our questions especially as I admit I did not know all the differences between the 700 and 800.

They even directed me to a supermarket so that I could buy a shoe for my wife for her good foot!

Martin was impressed by Ocean and especially a dealer who takes a 22 year old seriously. He rides a Fazer 600 on road, a track prepared 600 on track days and a CRF230 in enduros so he does know how to ride a bike. I think a 700/800 GS would be perfect for him.:)

Ive been using Ocean for the last 10 years, always been very helpful and patient.Never any hard sell, they won't bullshit and give you honest answers. If they dont know they find out.All the team have been great,so great in fact i go down for a coffee and end up with a new bike every few years. If only i could stop this!
