A couple of Swedish friends were due to attend the "Eurojumble" at Netley Marsh (just West of Southampton) over the weekend; so I thought I would pay them a visit on Saturday. I also wanted to give the 1150 GSA a long run to see how comfortable (or not) it is.

I left home (near Edinburgh) at 01:40 and arrived at the Autojumble at 09:30. I phoned the Swedes, to be told that they were visiting the Beaulieu Motor Museum that day :blast.

Never mind, I spent 5 hours looking at the 'bargains' :augie, didn't find the parts I was looking for (for a Tiger Cub restoration) then went home.

I arrived home at 21:30, having covered 1,034 miles.

The bike is fine, just a bit rough on some road surfaces at speed (I thought the prop shaft was going at one point on the M4) and the seat isn't too bad for 250 mile sessions between fuel stops. I can get up to 350 miles per tank full if I take it easy on Highland roads but it fair uses the juice at sustained motorway speeds.

The exhaust seems a bit louder now and the engine is looser (it has now done 10,000 miles). All in all we are all set for Spain and Morocco at the beginning of October - once it has had its 12,000 mile service and first MOT.

Not a drop of rain and the scenery in the Lake District as the sun started to go down was superb. I had my 'usual' curry and pot of tea at Tebay Services, where I got talking to a couple on a 1200 Bandit and a fellah on a Yamaha V-Max.

Its the BMF "Tail End" Rally at Peterborough on Saturday 15th, then a BMW Club run in Yorkshire on Sunday 16th.

I think there is something planned for 23rd as well . . . . :augie

So the mileage will be just right for a service at the end of the month.

I took 180 photos at Netley Marsh . . but you don't really want to see overpriced 'Classic' stuff on this site do you ? (I could have my arm twisted).

I met a couple of 'Tossers' in the bike park - greetings lads, if you happen to be reading this.

Bob.

Hi Bob another mileage megathon  Do you never go out for just a short run

I could be tempted with some of your pics mind, espec if there were any shaft driven twin examples :augie

Dont reckon those old oily chain things will ever catch on do you :D

Zum Wohl, Deano :beerjug:

Hi Deano,

Do you mean like this ? . . . . :augie Yours for £1850 (and not a bad price at that).

No, I thought not.

I'll put some photos together, but the only older Beemers I recall were in the bike park.

I'll post the pics tomorrow.

Bob.

OK Bob, look forward to that :thumb

Not related to Mme Thatcher are you Bob?

Mrs T could get by on a few hours sleep too apparently.

Left at 01.40.

Rode through the night (or morning rather) until 09.30 in the morning?

Spent the day at the aj, then back on the road and home at 21.30 hrs.

Ye Gods Bob! Talk about an Iron Man,:bow:bow:bow

It gets worse . . .

I had to be up at 06:00 on Sunday morning to take my eldest daughter plus horse to an event in Fife.

On the road with the Land Rover and trailer at 07:15.

Stretching the Drivers Hours a wee bit there Bob...:augie:D

Let's see some of the Old stuff then...:)

what sort of pills are you on Bob? :thumb

That was some run. You put us youngsters to shame. :clap

I was a bit worried about attempting it as my longest previous day run was 907 miles - so I took an overnight bag just in case I found the going too tough.

In the event I was fine. They do say you need less sleep when you get older and I don't usually get more than five hours a night.

I find that doing this once in a while is OK as the adreleline keeps me going. I wouldn't want to do it regularly.

The Eurojumble was just an excuse. I really wanted to give the bike a long run before heading for Spain and Morocco next month and possibly to Nord Cap next year. Now I know we will both be fine.

Bob.

By Popular Demand:

It seems Classic stuff is acceptable after all, so here are a few of the 190 photos I took.

I parked my GSA next to an R80RT that had just covered 250 miles. There are still plenty of these older boxers about.

DSC_0003.jpg

A classic Norton that had been ridden to the event. It has the look of a well used bike.

DSC_0005.jpg

The tank and frame say BSA (A10 I think) but the engine and front end are foreign. Not a bad job as it seems to work.

DSC_0007.jpg

This Suzuki triple was in the bike park, but judging be the headgear it wasn't ridden there. I suspect there is a trailer not far away.

DSC_0011.jpg

A rather smart K75 (sorry, its not a boxer).

DSC_0004.jpg

And an equally smart K100LT.

DSC_0014.jpg

Some of the classic stuff in the bike park was better than that for sale on the inside.

DSC_0013.jpg

This was offered for spares at £45. It looks repairable to me.

DSC_0019.jpg

Well . . If you want to start a rebuild there were a few 'bargains' like this to be had. This was a 1927 Triumph 'ND'. £795.00 to you sir

DSC_0030.jpg

Now try and find the rest of the gearbox :D

DSC_0031.jpg

There was a very nice collection of Speedway bikes on show (none for sale). A couple were started up and sounded great :thumb

DSC_0058.jpg

This has me beat . . Anyone seen anything like it before ?

DSC_0083.jpg

Likewise I don't recognise this . . hand change, overhead cam, 500 single. The seller obviously thinks its rare as it was priced at £2,750.

DSC_0089.jpg

This is the other side. It was completely rusted out with holes everywhere.

DSC_0091.jpg

Oh . . . My . . . God . . :blast

DSC_0097.jpg

Hmmmm, a tasty trumpet :thumb2 Its a 1966 Triumph T6 Thunderbird, offered at £3,400.

DSC_0103.jpg

Another 'special'; this time a Norton Atlas 750 with a Honda 750 four engine. It looked rather nice.

DSC_0142.jpg

Something we might not be familiar with - its a 1928 Peugeot P105S, a 350 single, offered at £3,250.

DSC_0146.jpg

And finally . . A real 'classic' - a 500cc Vincent 'Comet' (unkindly referred to by some as "half a Vincent" :D).

Got a well used front brake anyway Bob! Nice bike. Don't get me all nostalgic for my £35 Dommie!
