Having graduated from a Twin Cam to a new WC, I'm finding it more difficult to place the bike on the centre stand since I swapped from an '04 to my '07 bike. The '09 and '11 GSes that I had after the '07 bike were just as easy to pop up on the centre stand. Is this a common experience or am I just getting old and increasingly infirm. Ok, scrub that, I know I'm getting increasingly old and infirm but is the WC a bit of a bugger to get up on the stand.

Also, my bike seems to take a dislike to my Optimate 4 after it's been connected for a while and shows a red light. Is this a recognised issue or has my charger got a problem?

nope the "WC centre stand cannot be used by infirm bikers. it's too heavy and requires a nice level area to be safely mounted or just tell the wife to help butler mount it. (they will know what to do naturally):D

These bikes cannot obviously recognise any additional optimum products as it IS the premium product, so your Optimate 4 made in CHINA is totally overwhelmed by the ingenious german ingenuity and will always glow red with embarrassment!!

when it (bike) realises it's also made in China :D

Thanks - that's the funniest thing that's happened to me in a particularly shite day..... :D

Now, does anyone else who's in the upper echelons of motorcycledom and who actually owns one of these fine machines, rather than an obsolete ditch-pump, have any thoughts on these pressing matters...? :bounce1

Don`t know if I qualify for the upper echelons but I`ll offer my experience.

Can`t really be of much help with centre stand as I find mine easy enough to pop it up, having said that Ive had plenty of experience with FJR 1300s and the like so the GS is a comparative lightweight to me:thumb

As for the optimate are you plugging into the accesory socket or straight to the battery using pigtail. If using the socket and your optimate isn`t canbus complient then the system will shut down after 10-15 mins and won`t allow it to charge. If it is a canbus optimate are you sure its switched to correct setting, you can switch between canbus charging or non canbus with the optimate, can`t remember how you do it but I know it needs to be set for correct system.

Baring that your optimate could be fcuked of course;)

Thanks Tony - Optimate 4 = CANBus compliant. Me = Optimate savvy. I haven't altered the setting on it since it was last plugged into my Twin Cam, about 10 days ago and yes, I do know how to change the setting.

When I test rode the WC earlier in the year - I thought it needed a good heave to get it on the centre stand

Centre stand.

I found the centre stand difficult to use. I have a bad back and putting the bike on the centre stand can cause me a problem. I purchased one of the Wunderlich lifting handles but that did not help that much but I can do it on my own but chose not to. Had no problem with the 08 or TC.

So I don't use the centre stand unless my wife gives it a good tug ( the bike that is).

Can't help with the charger as I have a BM one that I had for my 08. GS. Still works a treat.

With the TC, it would just pop onto the centre stand without any lifting by just standing on the centre stand, but with the LC, I find that I need to lift the back of the bike at the same time. When I took the pillion handle off, I thought it would be more difficult, but just lift the frame under the rear seat, if its easier.:thumb

I can't help with the optimate on the LC, as I've never left it for more than 2 weeks without riding, but on the other 2 bikes, I just plug into the accessory socket.

Fully loaded is a complete cock to lift on the CS , 1200RT was a piece of cake to lift .

Re Optimate, I've got mine connected straight to the battery terminals (almost, via fuseblock) , works a treat - no red light.....

WC is a heavy bugger, have to stand on the CS lever a bit while lifting....

No it is not a bugger to get on the centre stand and you don't need a bloody battery charger if you ride bloody thing instead of looking at it! Man up!

Definitely more difficult to pull onto the centre stand than the TC

Steve

I've owned both and I agree with Steve, there's something slightly different about the stand geometry on the LC that makes it harder to use.

It's frickin easy! - Just push down on the centre stand with ones right foot, while pulling up on the rear foot peg hanger - a doddle even with loaded panniers and BMW bag stuffed with all sorts of stuff.

I am 5'11 13 stone 57 year old weakling, so if you fat tossers can't do then there is no hope for you - it's all about how you grab it and where to apply pressure!

P.S. best to wear gloves as the rear footpeg hanger can dig into sensitive girly hands.

It is and a lot of your cohorts also think it is harder to put on the centrestand, than the previous 1200GS (2007-2012)

So you're out voted :blast

So the majority are not always right, anyway this site is for whingers :D, I have had a 2005, 2010TC and now a 2013WC and really there is not much difference between the 3 of them, you just have to learn how to do it.
