A couple of reservations

Just read all the owners reviews scattered all over the web.
Seal failures galore, immobiliser faults, terrible corrosion, driveshaft faults....shall I go on???
Sorry to rain on your parade mate but all the members in this forum refuse to accept the truth.
Scour the interenet, ask owners when you get outside your main dealers and ask them what problems they have had!!!
You then can make up your own mind.

obviously BMW TEKKY is not happy with his example of the 1200gs. Sadly that sometimes happens 'you can please most of the people most of the time etc etc etc' Sounds like his bike was made at ten to five on a Friday.

And who could blame him for being negative about it, after all he's had a couple of bad experiences. I know I'm going to slag off something I don't like too, especially if it's gone wrong for me.

But think of it this way. There are over 6000 members 'and rising' on this forum. I would happily bet that about a third are happy 1200 owners, who might well have had a couple of warranty issues 'myself included'. But have never been let down, or stranded on the side of the road.

Tekky,
None meant mate. Just using you as an example of the negativity that is abundant amongst a very few 1200 owners on here.
I was in the George White Outlet shop in Swindon this morning, looking at a very nice blue and orange Arai Tour-X I thought it'd match the blue and orange KTM 990 adv perfectly. Maybe you'd like to go and buy it?

Gadgetbloke,
Welcome aboard. :thumb2 Make sure you get along to some of the events/gatherings this year. You'll meet quite a few very satisfied 1200 owners who will gladly tell you of all the negative things that have befallen their bikes. Oh and the reason they arn't ready to change them for anything else just yet. ;)

Ride safe and have fun Val.

Hope you take your own advice before buying your next vehicle.

I pick up my brand new R1200GS with all the bells & whistles in 12 days time. My excitement is tempered somewhat by a couple of fears. Firstly, from reading this forum, I have to ask if BMWs are reliable? This will be my first beemer, my last being the super-reliable VFR800Fi. Secondly, will I ever get used to filtering through traffic on such wide beastie? I suppose this is all academic since I have already laid down my cash, but any advice would be greatly received..

Cheers
Gadgetbloke.

Hello Pete, see you found the forum then. :thumb2

Ignore the negative comments or you'll never get any sleep, you worry to much :D

Collect the bike and get down to the Ace 1st Sunday of any month and you'll be able to put faces to names............and realise you're missing a shite load of gadgets for the bike.................

If I'm back up this way one of those Sundays, I'll be there

Cheers!

Jon

Hello Jon!
How did you know it was me? :augie I will be sure to try and get down there, but having read the extremely long thread about running the bike in, do I ride down at full throttle or keeping it under 4000 revs? :nenau This bike ownership isn't easy is it!
Only 7 days till I pick her up! :bounce1

Cheers
Pete.

As it's your first BMW. Can i ask what made you choose a GS out of all the other bikes available.

I've been slowly luring him to the dark side for years..................:green gri

Hmmmmmmmmm, Aston Clinton, gadget bloke (your xbox360 nom de plume I believe?) and a certain text saying you'd ordered one :mmmm

So when you take a brand new demo bike out, you never rev the nuts off it do you :augie

And if you visit the BMW factory, the last thing the guy does to the bike on the test rig is red line it in each gear and then hit the kill switch...........

There was an article on running it in/ride it as normal on the 1150 a while ago, not sure if it applies to the 1200 tho it's the same sorta engine.........:nenau

ps. been telling all the guys at work that have 360's that if they ever meet/see a "gadgetboy" online they're to shoot him on site and say hi from me :D

dont look back

ive had my 2003 1150GS for two years now,no probs realy fantastic bike so sleep well
corky:P

Got the bike!

I picked up my GS today and I am grinning from ear to ear! :D Lovely bike and a total pleasure to ride. The width is no way near as bad as I feared and only 3" wider than my FZR600. If she is reliable as she is beautiful then this will be a long and happy relationship.. :roll

Nice one matey:thumb

reliability... well mines an 05 ... only two minor issues and the dealer sorted them out straight away... and gave me a K1200 to play with... :thumb:thumb:thumb

As for the filtering, well i just use the handlebars as whiskers... if they dont fit, then the rest wont :blast

having said that, its got such great road presence... cars just move out of the way anyway...

Go get some miles on her and enjoy yourself :D:D:D

In any forum like this, people will post when they have problems and issues. They are less likely to post to say - I've had no problems this week.
as a result it easy to get a negative impression of the number of problems.

I have had no problems these last 11 months since new.(Touch wood):beerjug:
