A cunning plan (December Ride Out)

Crumbs, I'm planning a 'Round Britain' practice over xmas. Starting in GLA heading to Lochgilphead, inverary, oban, F William and then straight home. About 200 miles and done in 4 hours!

Blimey . . That's bad news Kai.

I won't ask, but I hope all goes well and that it won't be long before you are back on the bike.

Thanks. It's nothing major, just sorting out my carpal tunnel syndrome...

At least I'll then be able to hold the (right) handlebar properly.

Ah yes . . My wife had that Op' a few years back, it seemed to do the trick.

Best of luck with it; at least you picked the right time of year.

One assumes you can hold the glass with the left hand.

Great ! . . When are you doing it ?

Do you want to lead a 'run' ?

Have they finished the bridge repairs in Glen Coe ?

Well I think Ronno does have a point. My tentative plan at the moment is to go down the (west) side of Loch Awe, to Lochgilphead then back north through Inverararay to stop for lunch at the Loch Fyne Oyster bar (Oysters are not compulsory or the only thing on their menu). That's around 100 miles I guess so we would not need to leave Tyndrum until say 1030 unless a very early lunch was expected. Maybe 930 for bacon rolls at the Green Welly would be more sensible.

Sorry DrKen, Don't let me put you off. I wouldn't be able to go regardless of when you leave. (just in case you thought a later start would attract the likes of moi)

Can I put in a bid for a stop at the Crinan Canal ?

As an ex-Chairman of the Linlithgow Union Canal Society I still have an interest in Inland Waterways and I haven't seen that one.

Also - I'll have my camera with me !

Yerr, why not, I'll trade you a stop at Cairnbaan locks for a 1030 departure from Tyndrum? I will also provide an amusing sea story, about how some naughty boys from G*****w nearly let all the water out of the top reach of the Crinan Canal thanks to my rather inattentive supervision.

Not putting me off at all, I was just using your post as an excuse to open discussion of the starting time ;) .

GringoRojo and I are looking at the week 26th -29th Dec. I'm not an Xmas celebrant and the wife and kids are off to London to visit her parents so I have an empty.

The run is DIY, dog sitter and weather dependent but as long as the rain is not too heavy, the temperature above 5C it'll be on.

Exact details will be posted here, if I remember but you can pm me with your email address and I'll cc you in on the debate. BTW I'm happy to lead as long as no one minds running the risk of getting lost and a distinct lack of fag breaks!!

I can see its all sex, drugs and rock n roll in Kirkliston :D :D

'Fraid not. I'd need to leave home at 06.00 on a December morning to make the Green Welly at that time.
You guys are mental
Have a good one

Enjoy yerselves

I know I'm not the fasterest rider in the world, nor do I want to be, but I did think that an 8.00 a.m. start at the Green Welly was just a bit over optimistic. I would be leaving probably about 5.00 am, and that is just a bit too rufty tufty for me - in the winter. I'm sorry I'm a wuss... :P
I do hope you have a good time.

It looks as though I have been over-ruled. No-one wants to watch the sun rise & the frost melt !

Don't go away - we appear to be leaving the 'Green Welly' at 10:30 now. Whether you arrive early enough for a bacon butty is up to you.

Please join us. :clap

I don't smoke or drink either.

But I do get out and about on the bikes, restore old Land Rovers (1974 Series 3), tractors (1976 Zetor 6718) and bikes (1958 Triumph T20). I am also 'Transport Department and Sponsor' for my daughters' horse interests (two of each). I can add Gardening and DIY as well, but I don't currently have much time for those !

I am very impressed with your fitness campaign and admire your determination - Best wishes for the future.

Oh err Tractors, now you have me there, being a Cornish boy they where the nearest thing to sports cars we could get. As a young man I used to drive a 1976 Ford County with 4 large wheels and a huge winch on the rear.

Spent a fair bit of time in various Land Rovers too but that's another story and there is only room for one Onahi on the site :D

As of today (Monday) the medium term weather forecast suggests Saturday should be OK so I am planning to leave Edinburgh around 830 to be at the Green Welly (Tyndrum) for 10 or so.

If you plan to join the fun please post here, and or PM me or/and Voyager with some contact details (mobile no?). I will circulate a contacts list of those planning to come so we know to wait, or not, for stragglers and slowcoaches before we set off......

DrKen,

You have a PM.

(But I forgot to add my signature - "Voyager").

Oil seal failure

My bike is out of order due to what appears to be a bearing/seal failure in the rear hub.

It looks as though I won't be joining you after all this weekend. I'll try and get the parts and install them but it's a long shot.

If I'm not there then I'll wish you all a great day riding.

Packer,

I don't have a spare GS - but you are welcome to use my R80RT if you are insured for other bikes.
