Packer,

I don't have a spare GS - but you are welcome to use my R80RT if you are insured for other bikes.

Voyager.

That is an exceedingly generous offer Voyager for which I thank you. I'll need to check my insurance first as this has never arisen before.

The parts are in stock at the dealer and I'll collect them today. I may be able to get the thing sorted in time. If not I'll have the tough decision of maybe riding a borrowed bike or fixing my own. I'm seriously cheesed off though that at 27,000 relatively easy miles that I should have a failure like this. No loaded/pillion work, no off-roading, a few jumps and a couple of incidences of bottoming out the suspension on interesting roads but that's it. I though that these things were supposed to be TOUGH :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire

Packer,

I am insured with Footman James. Their "Modern Motorcycle Policy' covers my three bikes (Fully Comp) and allows me to ride other bikes on Third-party cover only.

Hopefully your insurance is as amenable.

As the R80 is worth less than £2K the 'TPO' shouldn't be an issue.

Weather Forecast for Saturday

Looking good:

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:
Sunny intervals and showers, but less windy and fairly mild. Some rain on Saturday night then back to sunshine and showers on Sunday.
Updated: 1253 on Wed 29 Nov 2006

Packer,

I tried to PM you, but it was disallowed.

I hope you get the 1150 fixed in time for Saturday morning, but if not give me a call at work on Friday.

0131 529 1843

I am usually there between 07:30 and 18:30.

Bob (AKA "Voyager").

Will do Voyager.

Got the bits, stripped out the hub (see post in technical - oily disk and tyre) and hopefully will pull the old bearing and re-assemble it tomorrow evening. Will be in touch. Haven't checked insurance yet.

I've got to say, Voyager. Very generous gesture, my man. Good on ya!

Yep, I'm up for it. Green Welly for 10?

Staintune exhaust is ready to fit and HID lights have arrived so maybe I'll get both done in time.

What are the final details?

I'm sure "DrKen" will correct me if I'm wrong but I think it goes like this:

Meet at 'Green Welly', Tyndrum for fuel and coffee. Arrival time is up to you, "Cunning Fox" and I expect to be there around 10:00.

Leave Green Welly at 10:30.
Head West along A85.
Go South-West on W-side of Loch Awe.
Down to Lochgilphead.
North up the A83, W-side of Loch Fyne to Inveraray for lunch.
Dr Ken will then lead us homewards - or something.
"Rdover" has to be back in Glasgow for 16:00.

Weather forecast looking good.

It looks like there will be six of us at the moment but the more the merrier :thumb

Voyager.

Sounds like a plan

Are we talking sat or sun? I can see both days mentioned

I concur more or less. The only caveat is with regard to the weather; there is a severe weather warning in force for Saturday later on, and as always the speed and track of the depression currently forming South of Greenland may vary from predictions. I have never thought it a good idea to deliberately set out into the teeth of a gale but with any luck we should be tucked up cosy back home before things get too wild. I will check the last forecast tonight just to be sure.

Might join you all for a coffee at the G W.
Ill be in the car with SWMBO heading south for the Christmas shopping. :(

Definitely Saturday. :thumb

So far there are seven of us:

Drken, Voyager, Packer, Rdover, Cunning fox, Gordon & Stumpy. :thumb

Did I miss anyone (apart from those in cars) ?

Still waiting to hear if Packer managed to fix his hub bearing, so far 'no news is good news'.

Any more takers ?

See you all at the 'G W' around 10:00 for a 10:30 start.

Cunning Fox - I'll confirm a rendezvous time when I hear Packer's plans.

The route looks like this
Almost completely correct. There is one minor error on this map which a very careful re-reading of the whole thread should reveal :D

Yahooooooo, two wheels again!!!
