The weather the further south you go tends to be nicer, more often which helps and I suspect more youngsters enter powered transport through two wheels than in the UK.There's a culture thing in the UK. Whereas on the continent a scooter is so much more acceptable, only my opinion.
A bloke (or lady) on a bike as opposed to a bloke (or a lady) on a scooter in the UK are viewed differently. But on the continent no one bats an eyelid. Maybe I'm getting that wrong but, as I said, it's only my opinion.
Then there's the three wheeled scoots, riders of those are again, viewed differently by the other two types of rider.
I think once I make the change I'll be fine. It's just that leap with no big bike back up I think. The weather the further south you go tends to be nicer, more often which helps and I suspect more youngsters enter powered transport through two wheels than in the UK.
In Cadiz there were thousands of scooters / bikes being used for daily transport, not that surprising given the good weather, but also how much easier it is to park and filter on them.
For me now, even if I could go back to a bike, I'm not sure I would as the easy luggage storage, weather protection and ease of operation have changed my priorities and how I enjoy being out on two wheels.

My first bike was a Yamaha YB100 who's engine apparently was an easy fit into a FS1E. Unsurprisingly there's a lot less YB100's around than there should be.Same deal in Spain with the 14 year old starting age for 50cc bikes. The local back street mechanic's shop did a roaring trade in 80cc big bore kits for all the Rieju mopeds - no wonder all the kids can really ride by the time they're 18!

Things are a changing, sadly. I see more kids on those damnable e-scooters than I do on 50cc bikes.kids aspire to a scooter in Spain, France and Italy. Not sure about the others but in France, 14 year olds can ride a 50cc
if you read Rossi's biography, as a young teenager he was ragging around on scooters that they souped up and he supports scooter racing now
