I was supposed to be riding down to Lake Como this past week with my 15 year old daughter, but got as far as Cochem in Germany when I got a call to say my mum had had a massive stroke, so had to ring P&O and get the ferry back the next day :(

Still had time to get a few decent pics, and luckily we'd at least taken the scenic road to Cochem so it wasn't just 2 days of motorways, although coming back we decided to do a motorway blast so we could make sure we made the ferry and then spent a few hours in Bruges where we had lunch in the market place.

This is my third tour on this bike it still surprises me how astonishingly good it is at everything. Carrying a pillion and luggage makes little difference to the handling and it's so comfortable, especially with a couple of tweaks for this year, including the detachable touratech screen extension, screen winglets and a throttle rocker (which is the best £4 I've ever spent on a bike!). That combination meant that we could cruise at 80mph on the motorway stretches with my visor up in a non-turbulent bubble of air - like a proper tourer :) Also got an airhawk seat for my daughter as the furthest she'd been before this was 110 miles, and we were doing consecutive 300 mile days. Also good having a pillion that can take photos from the bike so you dont have to keep stopping whenever you see a good view!

Strangely riding completely took my mind of the emergency at home - I'm not good at multitasking!

Now to take care of my mum and replan the trip for next year!

Raced back towards Zeebrugge but had a few hours to spare to popped in to spend a bit of time in Brugge - This is why I love bikes - you can just right right into teh square and park for free :)

Maybe in a 2 or 3 years she will be able to have a go in the front seat!

Tough about your mum, bet you and your daughter were looking forward to some quality miles and time.

i wish my 15yr old daughter would even consider doing this with me, having no wifi on the bike makes it a definite no no

would have been a great trip to share with her

hope your mums ok

Sorry to hear about your Mum.

Hope that you are able to look after her.

Shame that you did not reach Lago di Como....its absolutely beautiful there.

Good photographs of the cut short trip anyway.

Thanks for sharing, even when you have probably got other things on your mind.
