My cousin Bert lost his wife Jay at the weekend. She had a brain anurism during a holiday in Majorca last week and fell into a coma. Air ambulance flew her home at the weekend and Bert and his family then made the heartbreaking decision to switch off her life support machine in Ninewells Hospital. Knowing Jay, that's what she would have wanted done.
She was a great person. Really warm and friendly. Although she came originally from Glasgow, she and Bert moved back to Blairgowrie in the ealy 70's to bring up their family. She was a real Matriarch and fiercely proud Mum and Gran. The term "character and a half" could have been penned with Jay in mind, as could "she calls a spade a spade" (although often Jay would call it a "fukin shovel"
) I loved being in her company and you knew exactly where you stood with her.
She was a self taught furniture restorer and had a real nack for picking up antiques.
One of my favourite memories of Jay is when she told me that her son Mark (who's a very successful architect and property developer) after the birth of his firstborn had sold his Ferrari and bought a more family orientated Porsche (a "Canyon" according to Jay
). She often drove Mark's cars and she told me "Thank feck. Yon Ferraris are murder tae drive wi' heels on"
I'll really miss her and her pearls of wisdom. I know my life is much richer for having known her.
Jay Wilson RIP.
