Or at least in my book this counts as a proper technical question (as opposed to asking people to identify parts on Thelma:D)

Can a Wilbers shock absorber be re-built? or whatever it is they need to do when the oily stuff is coming out of one?

A beer for the first sensible, correct answer :beerjug:

Yes send it to any motorcycle suspension speciallists ( hopefully someone will recomend some one suitable and not too far away) you could even send it to wilbers.

For anything mechanical, if someone has built it, it can generally be rebuilt (subject to the availability of parts and the cost effectiveness of the rebuild).

I think they are like underpants - just turn them inside out and wear the again.... or in this case turn it upside down and carry on. You might have to adjust the rebound damping a bit though. I'm happy to help anytime you have any more technical questions Tiffany.

Wilbers are just a , err, budget priced , copy of an Ohlins, so they can dismantled for repairs, and need regular servicing.

With a quality shock like an Ohlins you can fell the difference as the fluid and gas degrade,so it is easy to tell when a service is due, but with the budget priced copies you start off so badly it is hard to get any worse, so rebuilds are not as important.

Feeling thirsty??

The beer is yours Keith, thanks for that link and the speed of your response, I've spoken to the nice young man there, and I'll be sending the shock up to them.

Err, you might have to travel for your beer, I live at Lands End. However we do have a good selection of Cornish beers...

And thank you to the everyone who replied. Even Gecko with some personal info I perhaps could have done without:)
