A question for those in the know ...

Thinking about getting a PDA phone with WiFi in preparation of using VoIP hotspots that are being built around the world.

Are the current phones the right spec? Been looking at the Qtek 9100/i-Mate KJam.

Or will the spec be different? i.e. the phones aren't launched yet.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Isn't that just a wifi spot with voip on the hardware ?

People already use skype in wifi cafes using a laptop and headset.

Never buy technology 'in preparation' for some new development..it'll all end in tears and being at the 'cutting edge' is hyper expensive.

If it takes off, the phones will be hugely expensive for 3 months and then drop a little for 6 months, then you'll find any number of them for nowt on the inside covers of the Sun etc etc....

Or....and this is just as likely, they'll change the spec or Sony will launch a rival format which will become the standard etc etc.

I think it is exactly this, but you use your PDA handset rather than a laptop.

I just wanted to know if it was as simple as that ... or actually it will use a slightly different technology.
