A Wander Through Wales From Welshpool

Home now. Set off this morning and took in Cheddar Gorge, Bath, the Cotswolds and the Fossway. A fantastic 4 days. Loved it so much that I may well do it in reverse in August and finish the ride in Liverpool with a big night out.IMG_2719.jpeg

Green Spot is my favourite and a beautiful drink. I'm very glad to read that you rate it so highly too @Sneldog Sláinte
As I've said before Aidan .... the Germans make excellent bier and tell the world how good it is. The Belgians make better bier and keep quiet about it :thumby:

The Scots make excellent whisky and tell the world how good it is ...

... but the Irish make better whiskey and keep quiet about it :aidan

I enjoyed this so much that I am going to do it again with Mrs Sneldog on the back this time. Setting off on Friday and spending the night at the Royal Oak in Welshpool again. Ride the best of Wales on Saturday and then stay at the Plough in Llandelio.

I have a route home planned but am wondering if local knowledge can improve it? Essentially it is skirting Lampeter to the east and then on to Aberystwyth. From there, Dollegau, Bala, Horseshoe Pass then cut across Cheshire and home through the Peaks. Any suggestions on the Wales side of the route to improve it would be welcome.

I was born near Aberaeron and I go back every now and then. When I lived in S Wales my regular route to the coast would be through Lampeter and onto Aberaeron. It's a pretty little town with a nice harbour as pointed out by Clarkson recently. The coast road up to Aberystwyth is lovely with some good sea views and changes of elevation.
The road north of Aberystwyth, A487 through Bow Street is pretty slow going with village speed limits. I did it on the way back to Welshpool on my latest visit to Aberaeron. Never again. I'll use the A44 next time.
I guess for you it will just be half an hour of slow going. Once past Talybont it is better. The route after Machynlleth to Bala and beyond is fine to the A5. No idea after that. I often do the run to Bala and back down to Machynlleth. Great scenery. You are in the Mach Loop so on weekdays, might get some aerial entertainment from RAF Valley. I'm usually heading to my favourite chippie in Aberdyfi.
