Ok here goes, this is my first ride report and first time attaching pictures so please be patient and gentle.

At the start of the year i decided to go and see a wee bit of the world, so after some planning and help from people from the site i set of for Germany, and it was the first time that ive toured anywere on my own.

It was a wee bit of a long haul down to the ferry in Newcastle, but well worth it in the end, after a very nice crossing and a few Stellla Artois, it was time to start learning to ride on the opposite side of the road, which i found rather simple, infact it felt quite natural in the end.

So it was off out of the ferry terminal and down the motorway as far as Nijmegen saw a couple of sites from Operation Market Garden.

Decided to cross the rhein and have my first night in a wee small town called Elton

The Hotel i stayed in on my first night (Wanders) it was a nice place small and very friendly.

When i was a child my father was in Gutersloh in the RAF, so i decided to go and see if the old quater was still standing. Some of the scenery on the way over was stunning.

It was good to see the old place, i didnt want to hang around to long, i think it must of looked a wee bit to dodgy a balding fat man taking pictures of military quaters. so it was off down outh a wee bit to the Mohne Dam, they done a grand job of rebuilding it.

Stayed the night in a stunning little guest house with a thatched roof, i took a picture but cant find it. :(

Hey some good pics, the pic of the Dam made me realise that it has been 20 yrs ago this year that I walked across that, I lived in Germany for just over a yr in army quarters, those houses look just like quarters that I used to be nearby to in Hamm.

That was a rough morning but worth it, shame i had to go all the way to Germany to get a proper continental breakfast instead of a lump o cheese and a couple o slices o boiled ham.
Im very pleased with the bike. never skipped a heart beat the whole time i was over.:thumb

I always imagine Germany as a bit like Stoke on Trent - sort of place you never go to unless you really have to

Looking at those photos makes me think that maybe Germany is a must-see place (unlike Stoke on Trent)

Good photos and good write-up :thumb2

A wee tour of Germany Part 3

I was up real early eager for another good days riding, only to find out that it was like this.

P1000348.jpg

Not to be detered i set off, and in about 30mins it had cleared up, so it was a lovely run down the Rhein crossing over on the little ferries now and again.

After the soaking i recieved, i just wanted out of there, just got up early morning and deided to ride south into the black forest down the B500 and over into France to the concentration camp at Natzwiller, it was a bit upsetting but well worth the time to go there.

After a good day in the saddle i eventually made it tothe guest house called "Neubierhausle" a lovely place and a lovely host in Birgitte, when she knew i was brittish she asked me if i was one of those BMW riders from this website, the evening meal was beautiful, 5 courses for 15 euros and i couldnt finish it. Well worth stopping off if in the area.

I see you had the same experience as I did at Natzweiler Struthof. Eerily quiet and not a soul in most of the photos. Hard too imagine the horrors that occurred there against such stunning background scenery.

Keep the report comin' Dougie :beerjug:

Hi Doug
You took great photos of my home country. A lot of the places, I've never been. I enjoyed looking at them (some of them not so much).
I'm going with my BF on a 2 week Germany trip in July, Eifel, Black Forest, Lake Constanz, Nürnberg and Düsseldorf. After seeing the pics, I'm looking forward to our trip even more.
If you've got more of them, keep them coming.

Best Regards
Linda
