A wee tour of Germany

I see you had the same experience as I did at Natzweiler Struthof. Eerily quiet and not a soul in most of the photos. Hard too imagine the horrors that occurred there against such stunning background scenery.

Keep the report comin' Dougie :beerjug:

It was so quiet, but yet pieceful, there was alot of school kids there on outings, but yet none of them are in my pics, you would never know it was there. The only other time i felt like that and the eerily silence is in the UK, American cemetry's in Normandy and the German cemetry at Lommel...

More coming soon.:pullface

A wee tour of Germany Part 5

I had the warning light coming on now and again, so i decided to stop at the new BMW garage to get it checked. I came across this place called Martins, spoke to the sales man, told him the problem, the bike was wheeled into the small workshop they had and onto the diagnostics machine, only to find out one of the filliments in my back light had went, so new bulb in, not bad at 2 euros, after saying thanks and my goodbyes it was time to get back on the road again.

The new F800R, a nice looking machine if you like nakeds.

It was getting late when i arrived in Berchtesgarden, i was very excited as for as long as i can remember ive wanted to visit Kehlsteinhaus, (Eagles Nest). Most of the guest houses were full so i opted for a Hotel, it was comfy and clean and somewere i could put my head down.

Some of the scenery up to the Hintertek carpark to catch the bus up to Kehlsteinhaus was amazing, and the road was ok to up the side of the mountain.

Finally made it to the car park, and then i realised something was wrong, i was the only person there apart from the people who run the souvineer shops. I went over to speak to them and then i found out

And it wasnt opening until after the weekend, and it was only Thursday.
I was a wee bit cheesed off to say the least, should of checked on the internet before going. nevermind. Thats the other reason i must come back next year. So it was onto the Autobahn up to Munich to visit the BMW museum.

Very enjoyable

Hotel type accommadation, much more refined than sluming under a horrible textile cover thing. At least you only suffered one night. :thumb

After the stop off at the BMW Plaza, it was up to Trier in the mossel valley, in the pouring rain and boy did it rain.
I saw the weather forecast on the news, and it didnt look good for the next few days, so i decided to head for the ferry, i think that was the most sensible thing to do, didnt want to marr a brilliant holiday with the last few days getting soaked. Before the ferry tho i thought i would stop of in Lommel to visit the German war cemetary.

Well folks thats the end of my report, hope you enjoyed it as much as i did. :thumb

Brilliant ride report Dougster67, really enjoyed it thanks for taking the time to post............:thumb

Great report there - many thanks for sharing. Its a shame you didn't get to camp more after taking the thing but to be honest I always go in guest houses and German Guset houses are right up there wih the best of them and being on your own its easy to find a room.

I must admit I have often thought about going own a tour on my tod from a purely selfish perspective as I can go where and when I want to plus you get to meet more folk when you are on your own.

Anyway - thanks again for an excellent report.

Really enjoyed that Dougie, lots of impressive pics.Nae wonder BM's are so fekin expsv thon building must hae cost a bit.

Thanks for the ride report Dougie. Me and a couple of mates are heading off to the Black Forest this Friday and your post has raised my excitment level and given me a good few ideas for places to visit. The lads I'm going with (both memebers of this site) seem hell bent on camping so hopefully this will show them the error of their way's and come around to my way of thinking and go Hotel or B&B.

Just out of curiosity, when was it you went?

Thanks again. :thumb2

I left the UK the 5th of May. Yip guest houses are the way, there clean, usually very nice hosts and usually cheaper than hotels. There are some good road there to, the B500, and the B26. if you do them ull want to go back the way you just came to do them again.

Thanks for that Doug. I'll point the lads in the direction of this thread and hopefully they will get the message.

Hi Doug
You took great photos of my home country. A lot of the places, I've never been. I enjoyed looking at them (some of them not so much).
I'm going with my BF on a 2 week Germany trip in July, Eifel, Black Forest, Lake Constanz, Nürnberg and Düsseldorf. After seeing the pics, I'm looking forward to our trip even more.
If you've got more of them, keep them coming.

Best Regards
Linda

Hi Linda, my wife and I, and our 2 friends are also off to Deutschland in July! Koln, Heidelburg, Lindau, Garmisch-Partenkirschen, Salzburg (AUT), Sachsenring (MotoGP), Munich, Rottenburg, and back! Whats your dates of travel? We're leaving 11th July for 2 weeks.

:beerjug:

Interesting report I particularly liked the pics of the old classics in the museum

Nice report Dougie. :thumb
