A3 Commuter

Does anyone use the A3 into London to get to work in the morning, I’m thinking of move down that way and I’m interested on what the journey could be like. I’m not worried about filtering as I current go east to west across town most days. Even better still if anyone uses or knows “seven hills road” down from Walton to the A3 would be great.

Not a regular commuter of the route but I have used the A3 from Guildford to London, Camden several times. It takes me an hour from Door to door and is normally OK. However I like to bully my way through cars and threaten them with me big engine bars!!!

I leave Kingston and use the A3 briefly before turning off to cross the river at Putney and then through Fulham to Mayfair. It's a doddle on a 1200GS.

A3 ?

Easy peasy. I'd take care on the Seven hills Road though, some dead ground.

I do it each day to West London from Epsom, getting on at Tolworth.

Roehampton Lane, Rocks Lane, Castlenau, cross the River on Hammersmith Bridge.

Take care lane splitting on Castlenau as you ride towards the bridge. Bus lanes and the line of crawling cars make the 2 or 3 box junctions tricky.

There are no hidden static cameras.

On the Way home, just after you pass Steptoe's it's very tempting to light the afterburner along Robinhood Way. Okay, but Roll it off and slip over into the slow lane as you pass the board for the Rugby playing fields on your left. There is a layby ahead popular with the local traffic division.

14.5 miles door to work, 40-45 mins, that's parked and changed into work shoes. It's hardly commuting and I could do it on a GP125 but it wouldn't have Radio 4 or heated grips....

Use the footbridge over the A3 as your braking point, you'll have scrubbed the speed off to 50MPH just as you come in to radar range - If they're parked up with the gun, give "em" a thumbs up, it's usually a couple of traffic police that are UKGSers - don't ask me how i know

What do you mean by "dead ground"?

Don't I feel guilty hacking across central london on the GS when a skipper would do. I can kill a tank of fuel to the reserve count down in under a hundred miles if I'm in a hurry.

I need to get to Soho for 9:15am, so would you still use the Hammersmith Bridge or get to one of the other inner london cross overs?

I noticed that on the several trips up and down looking for a place to live. Good tip on the footbridge as a marker

Through Clapham and cross the river at Lambeth bridge along millbank and north in Charing Cross road... EASY ONCE YOU DO IT. IF YOU WANT I CAN SHOW YOU ON A DAY OF.

The solicitor is really helpful but leases make getting to exchange a drawn out thing!
