A686 Hartside proposed speed limit reduction

As for Oxford style reductions, not up here mate. They don't need to, the roads are too bumpy, rippled, pot-holed and generally too poorly maintained to bother with speed limits.

I got rid of the ZZR and bought a GS because of the state of the bloody roads in Oxfordshire, and the Talivan, and the congestion.

The A34 (Main dual carriageway) looks like an Afghan B-Road in places, potholes you can lose a wheel smaller than 19 inches in, surface coming away and often getting flung at you by other vehicles.

I think they often lower the limits as it is cheaper than fixing the road.

Holy God.

I have never, ever seen the Council down here in Oxfordshire resist the temptation to slap in a new limit - even in the face of huge opposition.

Bloody well done you.

Sweet:thumb

They normally only want to lower it due to people exceeding it, which is odd as those that ignore the law will carry on as fast as ever, whilst those who obey it slow down.....

And really annoy me by getting in the way at an even lower speed than before :blast

Why can't people keep their best biking roads to their feckin' selves :blast

A686 Penrith to Hartside crap
A686 Hartside to Alston crap
B6277 Alston to Middleton much better ;)

Your best biking roads are NOT A roads :blast

Surely a personal matter, I like your "crap" roads, though will try the B6277 next time I am in the area. I have had many great times on A-Roads and some s*** times on B-Roads.

Worst part about the really well known ones is the "Minority" that f*** it up for everyone else and attract a huge plod presence. I have not exactly been an Angel all my life but do try to give other road users a bit of respect and space - even the ones that really should be run off the road and buried alive in their tin boxes, especially as they are the ones who have nothing better to do than complain to the Feds when they get home.
