The day after my 600 mile service, I decided to go for a run to put even more miles on it, so I decided to go to Applecross.
My route was as follows:
Kintore > Alford > Strathdon > Lecht > Tomintoul > Grantown on Spey > Aviemore > Kingussie > Newtonmore > Spean Bridge > Invergarry > Kyle of Lochalsh > Lochcarron > Applecross (via Bealach na Ba)
Applecross > coast road from Applecross to Kenmore > Lochcarron > Achnasheen > Garve > Inverness > a visit to Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre > Cawdor > Auldearn > Forres > Elgin > Keith > Huntly > Kintore
424.4 miles in total.
It was really foggy and raining going up Bealach na Ba - visbility was down to about 10m at the very top so rather than go back the same way, I went around the coast (Kenmore and Sheldaig) and I'm glad I did because some of the scenary is absolutely stunning!
I was planning on going Nairn > Granton > Aberlour on the way home but I stopped in past the Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre and spent about an hour there, so I just ended up heading down the A96 instead.
Here are some pics:
Laggan Dam
Bottom of Bealach na Ba
Applecross signpost
Bealach na Ba warning
Half way up Bealach na Ba
Applecross
Applecross Cemetary
Fearnmore (I think)
'Well of the Dead' at Culloden
'Graves of the Clans' at Culloden
Gravestone at Culloden
'The Memorial Cairn' at Culloden
'Field of the English' at Culloden
Old Leanach cottage at Culloden
