I’m looking at buying an immaculate 2019 r 1250 r after test ride today. Obviously I will be farkling it. First thing will be a screen.

I know this is a very subjective thing like tyres.
First question is the BMW one any good ?
If not can anyone recommend a good one.

Cheers Steve.

I preferred the MRA screen on mine but choice is very personal depending on a rider's height. The MRA has an adjustable top defector which allows you to direct air over your helmet. If you're of a taller persuasion, then the taller Wunderlich Touring screen or one of the Puig touring screens might suit but personally I thought the taller ones don't do much for the looks of the bike. Standard screen for me, was too noisy and created turbulence.

Second Morety's comments.
I disliked the OEM screen from day one and went with MRA screen that has the built in deflector, and found a massive improvement, with buffeting eliminated and some noise remaining. I am 5 ft 8 with 'short arms' and also fitted Helibars riser kit which changed the feel from 'strapping myself onto a torpedo' to comfortable brisk touring. Around £130 for the screen was for me a no-brainer.

Picked up a 2017 r1200r lc last Saturday and rode it back 180 miles, it had the standard BMW screen fitted which I found excellent and aas fitted with bew Pirelli Angel GT tyres which really suited the bike

Are you getting an R or an RS? You've posted in the RS sub-forum.

For the R I have found the screen from WRS to work pretty well. On the RS I had previously I liked the standard screen. Depends what you prefer - I like a clean airflow around the head and for that I am willing to put up with some air blast on the chest. A small screen mitigates the air blast without making you partake in the buffet.

Didn’t like the standard screen on my RS, too noisy and found the wind blast tiring on long days.
Tried a Puig touring screen- it was okay but still noisy.
Settled on a MRA screen with top deflector.

Bike also has Voight up and back risers.
I'm 5’11”

Screen is notorious on this bike. I have both Puig variants which I swap depending on time of year. The smaller Puig, whilst roughly the same size doesn't curve back to towards the rider, nor does it have that lip along the top edge.

How low? Is that the Puig? Is the wind in your chest I assume? How tall are you?
Soon after purchase I fitted a taller screen. Z Technik I think. Very nice, but not Nirvana.

Then I took a zip saw to the original screen. Lopped a couple of inches off at random.

Screen is set at lower setting.

I’m 5’8” in my boots. 32” inside leg.

Still needed more leg stretch so dropped the pegs with an MV set and added the tallest Sport seat.

I reckon wind noise - buffeting - is all about how your height, your screen and your helmet brings the wind onto your helmet and causes all the trouble.

By changing where the air coming off your screen hits you determines how the noise - buffeting - gets you.

So, you either hide behind a barn door screen, possibly looking through it (heaven forbid) for a quiet life - OR, let the wind hit your torso, thereby removing the air stream from your helmet.

Life got much quieter. And, taking the breeze on your torso lifts all the weight off your wrists at normal road speeds. Nirvana.

I’ve no need for bar risers.

I have survived warm days and also torrential rain showers. Suits me.

We are the same height, I also fitted the Sport Seat. Maybe I give it a try with a short screen for the summer . What sort of height is that screen now measured from the middle? The Arai helmet is quieter than the Neotec 2.

Screen centre is 310mm. Was just a random cut from each side into centre.
