Hi all
I have an unusual fault on my 2002 R1150GS. 39k miles almost all in the last 4 years since I bought it.

While braking from 50mph + to slow down to a stop the brake pressure seems to release for a fraction of a second around 25mph and then continue to brake as normal. Happens with front alone or both brakes applied. Not tried on back only.

The ABS does its usual operation before moving off and there are no errors on the GS911. I have bled the systems (have done it before it’s no problems) and the pressure on the lever seems good. I checked the clearance distance to the (cleaned) ABS speed sensor back and front.

Any ideas? I did have to change the gearbox at Xmas after an incident with a van so everything was dismantled so there is likely to be something I have done or not put back right but struggling to find it. Also put in new pads when repaired the bike.

Not really affecting use of the bike. It does not happen every time (but more than half I would say) and the speed it happens is low but be good to resolve!

Thanks in advance.

mine sometimes makes the abs " chirp" even tho' the brakes are not applied . normally in the wet.

when the front brake master is low on fluid ( but still half full ) the front brake behaves as if the wheel bearings are going , but they aren't , it's just a signal to me to check the pads.

Maybe disable the ABS and see what happens

Thanks. Very good idea. Tried today and the first time it got to the speed the problem usually happened there was an odd noise but no change in braking force. I then put ABS back on and it is better but not solved. I wonder if there is something wrong inside the ABS unit. I would prefer to have it as I ride all year and it has saved me a couple of times. May need to try another unit unless anyone has more ideas.

Thanks

Check none of on the teeth on abs ring are broken … I’ve a couple bikes over the with a tooth missing due to, I presume stones etc, have been thrown up and got caught, breaking one of the teeth off.

If you need another ABS unit, I’ve have a fully working one, complete with all the ancillary lines.
Professionally removed by BWW Technician. ;)
