On the way home from a wee run out, about 100 miles, as I was gently braking to stop at a red light I got a ABS warning, both lights flashing alternatively. Which they continued to do all the way home, some 15 miles.

On pulling into the drive way and killing the engine, I could hear a "whirring" noise like an electric motor or pump.

Switching off the ignition made no difference, i tried switching ignition off and on to reset but no difference, still flashing lights and a whirring noise. I tried turning off the ABS same result.

Eventually lifted the tank and disconected the battery, no more noise, which was comming from the ABS control unit, which was now rather warm

Any ideas, simple solutions  or do I either fork out a load of cash for another control unit or disconnect it and forget about ABS brakes:D

You might have a stuck relay, relay box is under front seat, reconnect battery and listen for noise or feel heat from abs relay, some times a sharp whack cures it--- give it a try then come back and tell us if its succesful- then its plan B ---

Tired that,
A thought occurred to me last night in work. When i replaced the fork seals recently, I removed the bolts from the ABS sensor, but it was bloody tight to get out, so I traced the wiring back and disconnected it, leaving the sensor in the fork leg whilst I took it off.
It dawned on me last night that i might not have replaced the screws. So i went out to the garage this morning and guess what, I hadn't, put two screws back in, after a fashion playing with shims, and reconnected the battery, whirring noise has stopped but the lights are still, flashing alternatively might be the battery is low now, tho all the ignition lights are nice and bright. Ill see how it goes after its charged up. Failing that I'll check the air gap on the sensor.

p.s. took me a fashion to get the ferker to fire up, ignition was coming on but no pump noise or starter motor, played with the fuses and relays switched the kill switch back n forth, scratched head  once i kicked the side stand up it was fine :doh
Next thing on the to do list, disconect stupid side stand switch

You might have to reset the ABS mate...
